Just get some cheapy cheap cheaper tires.
I've got some with mr tuffys and I have not had a flat, but still good grip, ride and speed.
Unless you have the money, then all the power to you.

I had picked up a pair off of Bonktown at $35 (or whatever they were). They're light, and they feel great, BUT I've NEVER had tires flat or cut as easily as these did. Not at all worth the money when you consider the fact that you can often pick up GP4000Ss or Pro3s for around the same $35.
Bottom line - Avoid

I have a few hundred miles on mine. Got them for dirt cheap from pbk otherwise I would have gotten gp4000s. Hope they aren't dangerous because I've been doing some really fast descent on them.

I use Ultremos a lot. Great riding tire. It's a race tire so it doesn't have the flat protection other tires have, but its one of my favorite tires in terms of ride quality.

i also use the r.1s daily. training, commute, race, all of it. i do keep a spare set around for when they start to thin out, but i think they hold up really well. They're no gatorskins in terms of longevity, but the ride is so sweet i have a hard time swapping them out for lesser activities than racing. the best attribute is the confidence these tires have around fast sharp turns. light, fast, grippy, what more do you want... so maybe you might have to swap them out in the middle of the season... so what. they're great tires.
try the Schwalbe ZX if you are really worried about durability. from what i understand they perform just as well (if not better) than the r.1s but have more puncture resistance.
