BF and FB
Anybody else read a post here and like it so much you start looking for the "like" button? Anybody think that would be a good addition to the next forum version?
I need to spend less time on the internet.

I had FB once. Then got rid of it less than 11 hours later. It caused undue stress in my life and I had a panic attack. It probably won't be long since everything is integrating with FB now.
Come to think of it I probably would have friends if i had a FB page..

A non-bike forum (it's a car one) has a rating system for posts. You can rate thanks or something.
Okay, I just checked. You can thank a member for a post. Members have the # of thanks listed below their total thanks and thanks/post.
I think a "thanks" is less personal than a "rating". A low rating may get people defensive or reluctant to post. A "thanks" only reinforces the good.

Eh. I've used it to invite people to events, remind me of people's birthdays, and otherwise just keep up with what my more distant friends are doing. The narcissistic picture posting is fun, too.

As a matter of fact, social networking sites are the reason I knew about 2 job leads I applied for.

Throw the stick!!!!
I cancelled my fb account for a couple of years but I finally gave in and re-activated it. I can say though that my "friends" on fb are people that I consider actual friends. I have no need to have 2,000 friends in the real world or in the binary one. FB comes in handy for things such as group rides and to catch out new goodies from companies that I am interested in.

I have had a Facebook account since when it was a closed system, where each university had their own Facebook essentially. So there are plenty of people who are about 30 who have had it since the beginning, why do you think they should get rid of it.

I think you have it backwards. My 18 year old niece has moved on from FB. My 65 year old mother is on it all the time.

I mainly use fb to play a game (that I devote way more time to than I should) and occasionally see what my friends from high school and college, with whom I've lost touch and am moderately curious about but not enough so that I actually want to reinitiate contact, are up to.

FB has greatly reduced the amount of time I spend here on BF anymore. The majority of my FB "friends" are from the cycling community. FB is a MAJOR force in Chicago cycling. FB and Twitter were why I was able to save the FRG race last week and why the race ended up breaking even. My largest growth in the past 6-8 months - business wise - has been driven by Facebook. Big change. It will continue as well.
Bikeforums is a key tool though and definitely has it's place. Where else can so many people berated others about frivolous things anonymously?

I don't mind Pabst Blue Ribbon or crack cocaine, but no Facebook. You have to draw the line somewhere.
