Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Need help modifying Specialized Vita Sport

Hello, new member here. Me and my girlfriend recently got into biking. We each bought a bike 2 months ago. I got me a cheap little fixie and she got talked into buying a vita sport at our LBS. We didnt know ANYTHING about bikes at the time. How it fits, riding style, and all that. So we got her the specialized vita sport because it was in our price range, its womens geometry and it was the type of riding we thought she would be doing. 2 months later, and we really love riding and she realized that she wants a more road bike/aggressive/forward leaning oriented ride. That being said, what changes can i make to this bike with minimal costs to replacing parts? I was thinking of interchanging the headset spacers, changing handlebars but then I'd have to change levers, or getting a longer stem. The saddle cant go any higher because she is super short. Thank you all for assistance.

For the changes she desires, it would be much more cost effective to sell that bike (or trade it in if your LBS does trade-ins for fair value) and buy one in the style that she wants. At a minimum, you're looking at new handlebars, shifters, possibly front & rear derailleurs, and I assume that you won't be doing the labor yourself... that can add up to several hundred dollars, and the geometry still wouldn't be right.

Agreed with MegaTom. That's a hybrid and meant to stay one. Best to get a road bike and keep the hybrid for commuting and getting around town or sell the hybrid to pay for a road bike.
