Scattante R-570/2010 Fuji Roubaix 1.0
Hi guys, I have a chance to purchase a 2010 scattante r-570 for about $764+tax (total = $840-ish). Do you think this is a good deal? It is the in house performance bike frame, but it comes with full 5700 105 groupset. Here is a link to the bike and all the information. https://www.performancebike.com/bikes..._20000_1605509 Let me know what you guys think. Opinions on the wheels, frame, components, etc are greatly appreciated. This will be my first road bike, so would this be a good deal for a beginner like me? Thanks in advance.
Update: I think I have decided to get the 2010 fuji roubaix 1.0. They have one at the store that is $899 and subtract the 15% discount. I heard great things about fuji frames, but I've read some things about them, but the 2010 model one they might have skimped a little. It does not have any carbon stays. It has a carbon fork and comes with a few sram rival components. It also comes with a standard double, so I am hoping to convince them to switch it to a compact. Here is the link: https://www.performancebike.com/bikes...6#ReviewHeader. What do you guys think? All opinions welcomed. Thanks

It is a great entry-level bike. And for 150 buck more, you can get a brand new one.

And through Monday, Performance is having a 15% off sale. And you'd also get points for 10% of the final price, for buying pedals and all the other etc. that you'll need with a new bike.

This is for a new 2010 Scattante R-570. I am buying it from the performancebike website. Since they are having a 15% off everything in store I thought it would be a good deal.

an alternative at PB, the GT GTr series 2 (sram apex, aksium wheels, fizik saddle), on sale for $849, may is double points month on GT bikes so you'd get 20% instead of 10, would make these two bikes roughly the same price (net)... worth a looksie i guess...
also, fwiw, the r570 is not 'full' 105... tektro brakes, fsa crank...

Was recently at PB and checked out the GT Series 2. The frame is hydroformed aluminum and has no welds, so looks very smooth and is light. As far as components, Apex is lower in the SRAM group than 105 is in Shimano. Probably more the equivilant to Tiagra, which is still a good groupo. They are both quality entry-level road bikes. The best thing to do is take both for a test ride and see which one feels better for you.

Thank you everybody for the responses. I was planning on ordering online, but now I'm going to wait till the store opens and give them a call to see if they have any in stock. This way I can save on shipping, give it a test ride to see if I even like it, and compare it to different bikes.

OP,
You are correct SRAM APEX or Shimano 105 is a matter of personal preference. Some riders simply prefer SRAM to Shimano. Either group would serve you well. One advantage of the SRAM Apex is the ability to have a wide gear ratio. Something you might consider if you are riding those steep hills in SF I hear about. I also hear PB has a decent return policy. Have you ridden either of the bikes in question? Remember fit is everything!

i just bought the 2011 R-570 this weekend from performance, came with 105 shifters, 105 FD/RD, 105 pedals, FSA triple crankset, carbon fork (i'm pretty sure the '10 comes with carbon fork too). it looks and rides great, i absolutely love it.

i also test-rode the R-670 (Ultegra equipped) and couldn't feel any real difference between the two. i'm a novice though so it's a great entry-level bike for me. i suspect that in a few years i'll be wanting to upgrade, but you never know.

Gotta say that this is very much incorrect. Apex is not equivalent to Tiagra. It's still a 10 speed group rather than the 9 speed Tiagra, has a lot more metal in its construction and is more durable. Apex is basically the same as Rival but uses alloy levers instead of carbon, has a long cage rear derailleur, uses heavier alloys and has the ability to run a large cassette. Tiagra is vastly different from 105 w/ 105 being quite a step up. That said both Apex and 105 are very good, but Apex is generally lower in price than 105, hence a lower price point for a similar bike. A Rival equipped bike will generally cost a bit more than a 105 bike and it all kind of staggers up from there.

GT Series 2 looks way better.
Respectable brand, respectable brand wheelset.
Better looking bike, probably better quality tubing, wheelset is probably higher quality.
Compact crank over triple.

That is actually a hell of a deal. The Aksiums alone are worth 250. Decent seat on it too.

lol @ comparing Apex with Tiagra.
Apex is probably as good as Ultegra, it's rival but 100 grams heavier, that's it.
Anyway, shimano is one thing and sram is another, so apples to oranges; but sram is lighter overall.
