I am not so sure about that. Yes, it computes/estimates power as opposed to measuring it - we've gone through that discussion before. But there is a pretty detailed report on the iBike website that indicates that barring short bursts, it actually matches Quarq and PT numbers quite closely. So apparently the calculations have gotten quite good in the current iteration.

Of course, the one downside is that it measures your power in one position only - that in which it was calibrated.

So leaving aside the well-documentated theoretical shortcomings of the unit, it seems to work reasonably accurately for what it is. Unless anyone actually has any first-hand experience that would indicate to the contrary?

(I have no dog in this fight - I have a Quarq and a PT, so it isnt as if I am trying to prove to myself the iBike kicks ass).

Thank you all for the info, I think Im gonna go with the ibike power meter just because it will be my first power meter, if I like it I plan on upgrading it when I upgrade my bike next season. I'll let you all know how the ibike meter works out.

You might want to read the very long thread on the iBike and be open to other options. fyi, we know how it will "work" out. GL
