Seat - chamois - taint comfort

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Seat - chamois - taint comfort

I am relatively new to the sport as this is only my second year. I have a pair of performance elite bibs that are very comfortable. I bought some Sugoi RS bibs and like the fit and fabric but I am miserable even on a short 25 mile ride.

I was hand washing both today and noticed that the chamois on my older performance bib is softer and thinner. My question is, will the Sugoi chamois "break in" and get more comfortable or is it just a seat - chamois - taint combo that is hit or miss.

I do use chamois cream on my seat bones and taint area but I haven't really worked a bunch into the chamois - didn't think this would help but now wondering.

My guess is that this is just a personal preference thing. Kinda disappointed after reading lots of good things about the RS bib.

In my experience the chamois is about as good as it is going to get on the first ride. I am probably different in that I like a thick hard chamois that doesn't collapse easily. It is more comfortable to me. I have a pair of Performance bibs and I haven't worn them in many years, but it might have more to do with me no liking bibs. The shoulder straps bother me.

In my experience, chaois does not "break-in". I have used Nalini, Craft, Castelli, Love2Pedal, Aerotech Designs even the Schwinn brand from Wal-mart, and I have never experienced discomfort due to the padding.

Saddles, and saddle positon, however, are a different matter.

If you experience discomfort due to chamois or bib change without altering your saddle, then you pretty much narrowed down the culprit. But give it 2 weeks and see if there is any change.

I've got two pairs of RS bibs, purchased about a year apart. I can't really tell the difference when I'm wearing one or the other. I've also got some Perf. Ultras that are years old and I notice the sponge pad is getting compressed.

If you are not comfortable, I'd suggest checking your fit. Even a tiny change of angle can affect how you feel.
