Happiness is....

... Having the day off to ride with my now 2 1/2 year old daughter in the bike trailer.

... 80 degrees and perfectly sunny....

... Not much protest from my injured shoulder...

... Soloing past a paceline with 50lb of kid and trailer attached to my bike while my daughter says "Hi! That's my daddy."

... Sharing the post-ride ice cream cone...

... Being completely accident free right until we get home, when my daughter greets my wife with "Mommy, I pooped." :)

Life is good. :D

How fast do you ride with your trailer attached? and what do you pull it with?(bike).

Since you 'Tri' I guess you use the stroller as well. That's a whole nother happiness. When the wind is killing me and I just don't feel like continuing my 3 y/o kicks into a wonderful rendition of 'Twinkle Twinkle' that makes me forget all the pain and discomfort.

I used to get up to 20 mph with mine. Kept it there on the downhills.

When my boy was around 4yo I bought a trail-a-bike for us so he could pedal too.

Now that was a blast! He could pedal and I could coast or if we worked together we could haul ass. He loved saying that "Let's haul ass, Daddy" and then laugh.

But he could coast too. We were out for ride and heading home and I noticed he'd gotten real quiet.

I turned to look and there he is fast asleep and I've just been riding along. Could have lost him on a bump!

Good Times...

Cycling with the kid is great. My older boy now has a single speed, a hybrid and a road bike. He (like us) thinks that's totally normal.

Well, I got two. Just some quickie cameraphone shots but I think I caught the ice cream break reasonably well. ;) I also get a kick out of the fact that her favorite water bottles are the 10-ouncers off my Amphipod running belt. :)

Every summer when we head to the shore we rent bikes and I get mine with a trailer so my daughter can enjoy the experience as well, it's a great time.

is pooping in a paceline bad etiquette? we need athread about that to match the farting threads.

Awesome, Dr Pete!

The trailer is a Chariot Cougar 1. I've used both my CAAD8 and my P2C tri bike to pull it. It's pretty funny doing TT intervals on the tri bike and you're going 4-5mph slower than normal... In general, if you're holding a steady 20-23 on flats or slight uphills you're working pretty hard. I don't have any data because for rides like these I refuse to let my electronics ruin the fun.

Beautiful, just beautiful. It seems like just yesterday I was riding around Camp Lejeune with my daughter, now 21.

Funny--I won't be too far off. We're moving to the Ft. Bragg area at the end of June.

That's why we used a rear-steer tandem for our three-year-old. We got some funny looks when he would cross his arms across his chest while we were cruising down the road. A three-year-old captain was one thing; a three-year-old caption riding with no hands was just too much for some people.

Have fun. If you want to go to a great spot for a beach vacation, try Emerald Island, just north a bit and hit up the Crab Shack for food. We started going there when I was stationed there and have been returning ever since.
