Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

cycling apparel

when you wear your jerseys and stuff, do you try to match the color of your apparel to the color of your bike?

My helmet matches my bike. But it was the only color they had in stock when I bought my helmet. There are a few OCP's that would match kit to bike though.

No, I buy what appears to be a good deal. I don't even match my jerseys to my shorts. I have never bought cycling clothes to make a fashion statement.

You match your jersey to the color of your handlebar tape, then you match the shoes to your tire color.

I know some girls who look real cute when they match their helmet and jersey colors to their bike color.

black shorts go with everything... white shirts go with everything... white or black helmets go with everything... no need to make fashion statements or try to match...

Race or group ride: full team kit. Commute or solo training ride or JRA: whatever's relatively clean.

Everybody is saying no, but just take a ride up and down the PCH and you will see probably at least 1/4 to 1/2 of the riders perfectly matching their bike. I have a blue helmet that matches my blue bike. But I wear solid black bibs and whatever jersey is on sale. My favorite jersey is orange and black.

If you can match the color of your jersey or whole kit to your bike, why not!

I wouldn't buy more than one matching outfit though, that starts to get a little OCP.

FWIW, I changed the bar tape on my race bike to match my kit. At first I thought it might be a little much, but it made it a lot easier for my kids to pick me out of a pack, as not many bikes have orange bar tape.

And it matches your water bottle!

My kit (bib & jersey) are white and red. My bike is black and red (red cables, computer and bottle cages incl.), red Conti GP4000s, red bar tape. More of an OCD thing for me than caring about what others think, so take it for what it's worth.

When I wear my Idaho Vandal jersey (black/gold/silver) it almost matches my black/yellow/white CR1. Only then, do I wear my black/yellow shorts. They do go w/my yellow Krylions & black/gold/silver/white Giro Monza lid. Otherwise, no.
