Father's Day came early
 

quick back story.

We usually go to Cary and spend a weekend to 'get away from home.' The kids love it. The wife can shop and all in all it's nice to get away once in a while. My youngest daughter had seen a bike that she wanted for her birthday at the local Performance there and we were going to get it for her. On the way there my wife looks at me and says, 'Well you should know. I was going to get it for you but I don't know what size you need, or what pedals and I don't want to get the wrong one."(it's a 3 hour ride to Cary for us). Then she and the girls say, 'Happy Fathers Day!'.

And I came home with this.

Those pedals are from the test ride I took and I got take off the unnecessary stuff as well. My Trek was a 58 and I've always thought it was to big. I got a 56 this time and it feels awesome. I hate that I can't ride the Arione as it's to narrow and I've really got used to riding a cutout saddle so, whatev. newho- specs

Carbon fiber frame. Mavik Aksium wheelset. Gonna put some EB's up there just haven't yet. Gotta fiddle with some measurements too but so far I'm loving. Well that's enough for me. laterz.

So everything in the house finally got quiet and I decided to start working on it. Lo and behold the drive side crank arm pedal threads are effed up. Man I'm so furious. The EB's will screw on to a point and then stop from the back as well.. Don't see any damaged threads but 1 or 2 is giving problems. Grabbed an old pedal and put it in no problem. Crisis averted. Platforms gone. CBEB's on. Dork disk removed. reflectors. next...

I really am in love with this bike...i think I'm finally beginning to understand you guys.. make sense?

FWIW the handlebars appear to be turned about 15 degrees too far back (the hoods/ramps should be closer to level). If you find that you are too stretched out with the bars set correctly, swap for a shorter stem :thumb:

Yeah. I haven't even made it to the cockpit yet. that's the way it came stock. If you knew you'd know I spend more time trying to optimize my ride than ride optimly. if that makes sense. I currently ride a 58 with a 110 stem and don't feel stretched out. But this 56 is like 'yeah you know that 58 feels good, well I fell better. Oooooo. Yaay.. ' not to cramped. comfortable. Can't complain.

Yeah that bar angle is horrendous. Not to mention the brakes. I don't know if PBS intentionally gave no brake strength to test me or the name sram. I was out mashing in the parking lot doin some sprints and 'ugh. no brakes.' In rolled up jeans and flipflops no less. I'll have to get picture up. Caught me way off gaurd.

Whose rules are these? Shouldn't the handlebar angles be adjusted and angled so that the rider is comfortable and not according some aesthetic rule?

From a bike fit perspective people sometimes rotate the bars like that when they are too stretched out. The stem is longer than average (looks like a 120mm). Sounds like the OP is still dialing in the fit though. Nice bike!

I really like the looks of the GT's. And they are unique which is a plus in my book.

And the front wheel is lifted a couple of inches making it look like they are turned up a little more than they are.

As I look at the picture, I have to ask the OP, when did you take a picture in front of my garage?

The one thing I have learned on BF is that Americans all buy their garage doors from the same shop.

yeah, funny story about the picture. We had to unpack the van which included a lot of things. I looked at my wife and was like, 'First I have to get a picture while there's still light.' Then we can finish unpacking everything.'

Side note. Had to call out of work this morning thanks to a horrible flu/sinus bug running around so I get to stay home today and admire my new toy. I couldn't ride if I wanted to though.
