I dont get the kickstand and bell joke. My bikes have kickstands and bells.

sbxx1985 06-10-11 03:49 PM

My bike has two kickstands for added safety.

Spookeay Bird 06-10-11 04:06 PM

Oh, heck yea sbxx. LOL Where do you keep that second one?

boogoshea 06-10-11 04:07 PM

I've got a dork disk on my front wheel too.

This sort of elitist attitude is exactly what this forum needs less of. Don't forget you were a noob once as well. You basically did not contribute or propel the discussion in any way, so why don't you just not say anything at all? You may sound like less of an ass if you did that.

AdelaaR 06-10-11 04:14 PM

OMG the unaeroness is sickening. ;)

There is even a thread on how this can be done...

I'll admit that my post was a bit sarcastic, but it sounds like you might not be to the place where you want to go without the disk just yet.

If you don't know what the thing does and need assistance to remove it, you definitely should leave it alone.

If you don't know how to properly adjust an RD, you probably also can't tell if it isn't adjusted correctly. An RD in the spokes could really mess you up.

They make it so your wheel can't spin smoothly. Also they add an amount of weight people spend a fortune getting rid of.

If your wheel reflectors are really improving your visibility to drivers, it's a sign that you aren't dressed or lit up properly. Reflective gear is essential to riding safely at night. Wheel reflectors are not.

Some races run on public roads require the reflectors which is why some riders use them. I ride on two lane roads in winter storms in the dark all the time and wouldn't consider using them. Numerous road reports indicate I am highly visible.

I also seem to recall someone here explaining that the specific reason they remove their reflectors is that they once had one come loose while riding, turn sideways and do some spoke damage when it came back around to the fork.

Hey Spookeay!

I was just looking at the pic and tagline in your sig. Are you sure you didn't accidentally include a picture of the perp rather than the detective? Unless my eyes deceive me, I'm seeing street shoes, oversized seat bag and pump, valve caps, neither pedals nor wheels are in optimum position for photographing (pedals should be in 3 and 9 o'clock positions, wheels should have stems at bottom or hidden), insulated water bottle, and spacers above the stem. Also, cassette looks huge. I couldn't tell if you have low gears for climbing or if the dork disk may still be there ;)

The way I expressed it was admittedly played for humor. However, I stand by the point; you need to have a clear understanding of why the disc is there, and how to adjust the mechanisms on the bike that make it superfluos before you take it off.

The OP's original post was tee'd up for less than a purely straight response; I think he got the humor in the whole thread and played along.

And actually I think I made exactly the point that needed to made. If you understand why the disc is there, and can adjust the bike so you don't need it, then you can take it off; otherwise, you are better off with it there.

And as for me being an ass, not advancing discussions, I'd gladly match the substance of my contributions to BF to yours, both substantively, and entertainment value wise any day.

So LTFU, and HTFU.

DOOM_NX 06-10-11 07:00 PM

Peace guys... No need to argue even over a bad joke...

LOL, Well. Just trying to blend in to the surroundings.
You always know your under surveillance when the too clean stock ford POS is parked outside your door.

After I posted, it occurred to me that you have been gone undercover as many detectives do.

Be aware that the targets of your investigations might see right through your camouflage. To fool them, you need to put on a bunch of weight, look a lot less fit, and definitely not strike such an OCP pose. Adding a mirror would be a nice touch. Also, I can't tell for certain from the pic, but it looks like your glasses are correctly on the outside of your helmet straps -- when undercover, the straps should always be on the outside.

Taking out your frustrations on random strangers on the internet is pretty lame. Just sayin'.

If you have a problem with how other people set up their bikes, I suggest you find a new hobby instead of trolling BF.
