Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Took a ride with my triathlete friend this morning. The pic is part of the Port of Mobile taken from the Cochran Africa Town Bridge.

From this morning's ride. Fire in Waldo Canyon, just west of Colorado/Manitou Springs. There is an arsonist at work up there, but no one is yet sure how this one started. Behind the cloud of smoke is Pike's Peak and Cheyenne Mountain to the left.

Technically this classifies as Pics of your bike near water, near mountains, and a new category, by fire :-(

Columbia River

From this afternoon's ride along the columbia river. Quite a bit of headwind and patella pain, but other than that a great day. Click on the picture to enlarge.

Lake Ella, Tallahassee, FL

This is a Centurion LeMans 1983 cromo 12-speed mixte I bought from Craigslist a while back. She's fun and beautiful. Had been stored in a garage for a long time and had low mileage. Rosa is shown here in front of Lake Ella, downtown Tallahassee, near Joe's Bike Shop [shown in the background]. A cool early morning.

Took this today with my phone. Might have been a much better shot but the lens of the phone's camera was smeared with SIS energy gel from my jersey pocket

Today I took a detour over to Gaithright Dam. On the high side looking at Lake Moomaw (the camera doesn't capture the emerald color of the water very well):

On the other side of the dam, the road across the dam is to the left, Lake Moomaw straight ahead:

And downstream from the dam, at an old steel bridge:

It hit 102F today, I have never sweated so much on a road bike as going up and over Morris Hill on the way to the dam today.
