Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I know this is a road bike forum. Thing is, this is my road bike, a Bike Friday NWT. The backdrop needs no introduction.

Saturday, my second annual ride-my-age/metric century (since the distances coincide for now). I wasn't up to the Hotter'N Hell Hundred in Wichita Falls, but wanted to take advantage of the unseasonably cool overcast day, an unexpectedly pleasant advantage to the otherwise horrific Hurricane Harvey.

I resumed cycling in late August 2015 after a 30 year hiatus. Last August I rode my 35+ lb comfort hybrid, with more and longer rest breaks, and averaged 9 mph.

This year I took the new-to-me Centurion Ironman for a tougher, hillier route. Still needed a few rest breaks to stretch out the cramps and muscle spasms, but averaged a smidge over 15 mph. Slowed a bit toward the end by 20 mph headwinds around 15 miles from home as the outer periphery of Harvey blew through, and heavy rain the last 5-10 miles. The bike handled fine, even with Schwalbe 1 slicks.

Took this photo around Lake Weatherford where I noticed some denser and larger than normal water lilies.

Not mine but my buddy's '98 LeMond Zurich during our ride this morning on Canada Rd. I didn't have a worthy enough bike for a shot like this.

No, that's Morib Beach. Not really a nice beach to actually bring the family and swim at, but it's a rather popular stopping point for local cyclists.

Looks pretty good to me. Do you ever ride up to Genting Highlands?
I'm hoping to return to KL someday and bring my bike.

I haven't tried Genting yet. In fact, I haven't really rode most of the popular hilly routes near to KL -- Fraser's Hill, Genting Sempah, Broga, etc. I do intend to try Fraser's Hill one day (there was actually an organized event for it last Sunday that I wasn't aware of until I saw it posted on Strava, damn!!!) but until then, the nastiest "hill" (if you can call it that) that I have rode up so far is Bukit Jugra, just a few km north of Morib. It's tradition to go kill your legs up its short but nasty 20% stretch if you ride to Morib.
