New to cycling

Just bought my first bike at 30 years old. I wanted to add cycling to my running. I went with Trek 7.2fx fitness bike. Give me some feedback/advice on my bike, cycling, etc. I am all ears and very appreciative. Ready to learn....

Congrats!! I started with a hybrid and eventually made my way into a road bike. You should check out the hybrid forum. There are some great folks there who can certainly assist you.

Ride the darn thing. You'll figure out what you like and don't about it, and what you can change. If you're a runner, expect some adaptation in your leg muscle balance and coordination as your feet figure out circles. Get some cycling shorts to spare your nether regions and a helmet to increase the odds for your noggin if you crash.

Mostly, have fun, go places, ride hard, ride easy sometimes, and be safe.

I started for real last year at 29.

simple advice that i took:
(1) try to keep your pedaling at 80-100rpm at all times. change gears to keep it at that speed.
(2) focus on keeping even, constant pressure on the pedals to develop a smooth, circular pedal stroke.
(3) ride a lot of miles.

for me, i got better quickly by trying to catch everyone in front of me and trying to stay away from everyone behind me.

if you're like me, you might find yourself craving a road bike very soon :)
