Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Campagnolo Front derailleur question

So I was just given basically an entire 2011 Campy Chorus 11speed group set for free, from a really good friend excluding the front derailleur and chain. I have never bought individual parts before so purchasing a front derailleur is foreign territory to me. I have been looking and I see you can get a braze-on, or ones with a a 32mm or 35mm clamp. No clue what this all means so could someone help me out. I will be putting the groupset on my 2011 full carbon cannondale synapse or my scott CR1, what front derailleur will work best with me set up and bike. Not sure if it's relevant but my cassette is 12-27. Thanks in advance for any advice!

It depends if your frame has a braze on mount or not. If it has a braze on mount then get the braze on version (basically your frame has a tab where the front derailleur should be and you bolt it onto that), if not then you need a clamp on front derailleur. You can find out what size clamp you need based off what size seatpost clamp you use, so if you have a 35mm seatpost clamp you would get a 35mm clamp on mount.

edited: accidentally said rear instead of front
