Mr. 3000 update, 25 miles closer today...

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Mr. 3000 update, 25 miles closer today...

Got 25 miles in before work today, as I push to make 3,000 miles for the season which began in March for me. Now, here's the question:

My usual route is 26 miles, and it just so happens I now have 26 miles to go to hit 3,000 miles. The forecast for tomorrow is warmer, low 50's when I go out, and windy. If I do my normal route it will be 26 miles and I'll be at 3,000 when I get home. Do I do that or do I take an extra little section on the route so that I hit 3,000 prior to getting back home?

This is a big deal for me...gonna stop and take a pix and mark the occasion, because I'm very proud of the accomplishment this year, when you consider my goal was to do 2,000 miles.

You said that you'd take pictures as you turn 3000. Is you neighborhood pretty? Otherwise, do a couple of loops in the middle so that your classic 3000-mile picture has a interesting background.

Congrats in advance.

Yeah, my neighborhood is just fine, but it seems a little strange to just mark the occasion right in my own driveway, ya know?

There is a loop I could add on that includes a big hill that's on a crit course where there was a race this summer and where I've completed the course twice this past summer. I'm thinking of doing a lap in the middle of the ride on that course....which would add a couple of miles, thereby meaning I hit the 3,000 mark somewhere out there on course.
...

FYI....On today's ride I saw a huge Great Blue Herron in a pond (Pretty late and cold here for one of those to be around) and also an eight-point buck standing roadside in the grass just giving me the look and never moving!

I plan on taking a picture of my computer later this week with 5,000 miles on it! This isn't over just this season though...

No way! Ride out and take a pic somewhere you've never been (if this is possible, Mr/MRS/MISS. 3K) - then enjoy the scenery on the way back, with that smug look of surly bike-riderness mixed with pain because your toes and saddle sores are getting numb.

You rock!

I imagine my friends ringing cowbells when I ride home from school. Makes me smile huge and start pedeling faster- even though I've never rode in a race and I ride about 100 mi a week.

Who cares what the background is, the achievement is the focus of the picture.
