Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bianchi experts wanted

Hello,

Just recently picked this frame up and plan to build it up this winter.

https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW

I have tried to find information about it online with no luck. Only find stuff on the newer Aluminum Alloro. It appears as though it is part of the Reparto Corse line, but that's about all I can decifer. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I am just looking to learn as much about as I can.

Thanks in advance.

Looks like a mid-90's steel frame and in decent shape. I had a simalar frame with the ovalized downtube. Perfectly ridable. I did not like the welded unicrown fork as it was softer than the brazed fork I had on an earlier model. Still, a nice frame.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Any ideas as to the steel type? Haven't set it up yet, but curious also about the geometry? It looks reasonable agrressive.

The tubing decal on the seat tube near the bottom bracket looks like a Dedaccai Zero Tre decal. Quality, basic, cromoly steel tubing. Solid stuff.

I think it's a bike shop sticker.

Don d. is good. I checked it tonight and it says

ZERO TRE
TUBI ALLEGGERITI A
SEZIONE VARIABILE
25 Cr Mo4
MICRO
ALLOYED
DEDACCIAI
TECNOLIGIA DEI TUBI
ENGINEERED for
Bianchi

My Italian is rusty, but I got most of it, but don;t quite follow the 25 Cr Mo4 MICRO ALLOYED part. Any ideas?

The numbers are the manufacturer's designation for the metallurgy of the tubes.

The US distributor for Dedacciai:

Acording to my source,"Similar to 4130 cromo. Some tubes are seamless, while most are seamed and drawn over a mandrel". Probably has to do with ammounts of Cr and Mo in the alloy.

The Alloro was the entry level touring bike back in like 1997. Based on the coloring and the Ernesto signature on there, I would date it to 97-98. It should be Deda Zero Tre tubing.

Let me add that it was sold as a complete bike with the Campy Mirage gruppo. They used to sell them in my LBS alongside the Eros, Veloce and Campione.

Good point. But I think it was labeled as "touring" because of its geometry more than anything else. I could be wrong, but I remember that frame and that year because that was when I bought my first road bike which was the Veloce. Maybe I'm thinking of the Eros.

My 95 Campione is ZeroTre tubing with the same Superset decals, but without internal cable routing.

I think you might be thinking the Eros, because that is one rung down from the Veloce. I know I have late 80's Eros. The Eros is definitely a touring bike, it even has mounts for a rear rack, which this frame does not have. Also, for what it is worth Alloro means Laurel in italian indicating a racing connection. Along with the internal cable routing and that by 2001 the Alloro name was used on a Reparto Corse line, I'm thinking it is not a touring frame.

Mine is almost identical, but with chrome stays and blue decals. It has the Zero Tre tubing and internal cabling. Zero Tre was third down the line in Dedacciai's competition tubing sets - Zero was top, Zero Uno second and Zero Tre third. The bike is certainly not touring geometry, there's barely a couple of millimetres between the rear tyre and the seat tube. With Campag Centaur (good value for money and works beautifully) it's fantastic to ride. Enjoy yours!

Looks a lot like my Bianchi Trofeo: Dedaccai tubing, ovalized downtube, unicrown fork, even the same rear dropouts but I don't have the internal routing on the brake cable. Should build into a nice bike.
