what are the best lycra shorts for road riding?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have tried a few pairs of lycra cycling shorts but didn't find them very comfortable. I have been circumcised and find that they can make my penis sore. Are some brands designed with this in mind? I'd also like some shorts that don't show my 'religion' to everyone that I meet!

I believe that proper placement of said appendage will have more to do with comfort than the shorts/chamois. Also, the occasional stop-and-adjust maneuver helps. As for a specific brand that is more comfortable, I've had good results with Louis Garneau and Sugoi bibs. You might also try a friction-relieving product, such as Assos chamois lube. It definitely helps prevent chafing, and the new mix they use is much less harsh on the tender bits than the old one.

You really should ask your Mohel about the proper lycra for cycling. This is common conversation on your Bris Milah.

...but seriously. Check your bike fit and saddle position before blaming your shorts.
