Steel maybe real but Carbon's the deal (my new bike 1st ride)
So after a week and a half of my new GT looking at me, laughing, I finally got to take it out today for a maiden voyage. The wife took the kids to work with her and I had half the day to myself. I got dressed and realised I didn't even have a bottle cage for the new bike but did manage to find one I had bought for the wife a year ago sitting on the shelf. Ugly, yes, Functional, yes. Done. Put the new wheel magnet on for the Cateye and went outside. I was excited. First real ride on carbon. (My other bike is a Trek 1.2. It's a real bike cuz it's the same name Lance rides so I'm cool).
So, riding on a 50-34 coming from a 53-39 is weird. Took some time to get used to. Once I found my rhythm I was pretty good for the rest of the ride. Don't know if it's something I want to keep, but time will tell. This frame is also a size smaller than my Trek but it seemed really twitchy. Maybe it was the shorter wheelbase but it wanted to move any time my weight shifted. Another thing I got used to by the middle of the ride. Overall the fit is almost identical to the Trek but I didn't have any fit issues other than a minor saddle change. Carbon, what can I say about this. Taking my same route felt 100% different. The small bumps and rumbles kind of just smoothed away and I reached the end of my ride feeling like I had been on a bike for an hour not kicked in the ass for an hour. Crazy? Yeah. But it really was amazing. I guess the bike being almost 2 1/2 lbs lighter than my other ride might have something to do with my smile too.
The bike is fitted with some Aksiums. Ok, who let them build rear hubs? Man that thing is loud. I spent almost all of my ride trying not to let that thing click. Like a dry firing machine gun. Click click click click click. Only bad thing I can say about the bike. Best Daddy's Day present I ever got.

To hit the grand slam you gotta go with SRAM.

The loud clicking is actually useful to let other riders and/or pedestrians know you are coming up behind them. I have Fulcrum 7 wheels that do the same thing.

Glad you feel steel is real, and carbon's the deal. Since I have both. And then there's titanium - mmmmmmm.

so many other good wheels available without the racket...
I wouldn;t even keep them as a spare set. Sell em and get something nicer.

Nice lookin' bike.
Now get it outta the granny gear, find some green tires/cages, and then apparently taking pictures of it near water is supposed to be cool.

I test rode one of those before I bought my AL GT (to get an idea about geometry/fit before they built it up), its a very nice bike and I ~almost~ pulled the trigger on it cuz the price was excellent... alas, my budget wouldn't allow it... this year...
fwiw - I don't find the rear hub loud at all on mine (same wheels), maybe I'm just more tolerant of the noise... I agree with abstract on this, they make a fine bike that is highly underrated and has an excellent price...

Oh, yes. Plastic is fantastic. But a compact chainring is the thing.
When I bought my Bianchi 928 I didn't realize it came with a 50/34 until my first ride up a hill I was familiar with. Suddenly I all confused. It's like I lost a bunch of weight. I'm thinking WOW! this bike is magic.

Nice looking ride, and I'm another steel guy on the cusp of adding carbon to the stable (or ti, jury's still out).
The 50/34 crank setup is new to me, though I like the idea of a more generous low end, given my location in the Rockies. Probably well worth the loss of a couple of haulin' ass gears, IMO.
