Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm gonna carry my check book. That way I can keep writing checks in different amounts until I find the one that works.

It's a financial exchange/sacrifice to the tire gods to allow you to travel home

If you're really concerned about sidewall gashes like this, you could also carry a Park TB-2 in your seatbag along with your tube and tire lever. It actually works a little better than cash.

That's so Fredly - what next, you use matches to light cigarettes instead of $100 notes?

I'm sure junkies use the same justification on rolled up Franklins.

Get yourself a Tyvek envelope and you can make all the emergency tire boots you'll ever need. Tyvek is much stronger than a paper bill and weighs nothing.
