Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ultegra hoods don't stay in place

i just put new ultegra shifters on my bike a few months ago. they are the current 6700 model.

the rubber hoods on the shifters don't stay in place - they slide forward, and get in a position up over the shifter.

they have little rubber "nubs" on the inside, which are supposed to fit in holes on the molded plastic part of the shifter, but it's hard to really seat them well, and, the hoods seem to slip anyway.

am i doing something wrong?

it didn't happen with my 105's

i've never had a fitting..., but lately i've been thinking that i reach too far forward to get to the hoods, and that i'm exerting too much forward-directed force on the hoods. maybe my bike's a bit big, and putting the seat forward, and/or getting a shorter stem would yield a position where the force on the hoods is down, rather than forward.

any ideas?
