Alternative to 2002 Lemond Buenos Aires
Hi,
Brand spanking new here. I have a Buenos Aires that has been great and would love to find another one. But if I'm not able to, what would be pretty comparable to it? I'd like to have one where my parents live and not have to ship mine back and forth. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the info. It doesn't have to be a Lemond, but something with similar geometry and the components work well for me. I don't really know a lot about components and what's higher end, but the ones on the Buenos Aires have worked well for me. I was following my exact bike on ebay recently and it went for $830. That seemed rather high to me for a 9 year old bike. Am I off base thinking that was too high?

Thanks everyone for the info. My bike is 51 cm, but I've been told I should ride a 54 (I'm 5'8"), but my bike has felt pretty comfortable since day one.

I agree ultraman, if not newer. However, those have proven to be tough to find. That's why I'd be open to any suggestions to alternatives to Lemonds, that are similar.

I almost bought a Buenos Aires in 2003...loved the ride of that bike. I know that the Trek 5200 was another option as well as the Specialized Roubaix.
The Cannondale R2000 was an aluminum frame also in that era.
All those bikes fit my frame fairly well, shorter legs and long back, the BA was prob the best with the Trek a close 2nd.
Wante to add, the 2200 may have been the more comparable model and not the 5200......but both are nice.

Once fitted you can narrow your search. Most bikes will feel fine, but you want to be as efficient as possible and not straining to keep your posture.

THat u ride a 51 in a lemond doesnt mean that much, all lemond frames are long so it would not surprise me that a 51 lemond could fit like a 53 in another brand. Yes at your height you should be like a 54.
U can find original lemonds from before trek era now at ebay (when lemond started the business the 1st time). I even have one with like 100 miles ridden.

The '05 Buenos Aires was part of the "Spine Series" and was 1/2 steel and 1/2 carbon. Nice bike but not the all steel frame you were looking for. Still, $700 could be a very good deal depending on the condition and the build.

I took a chance and pulled the trigger and got the 2005 Buenos Aires for $700 plus shipping. I think I'll be happy with it, but I'll let you know after RAGBRAI. No more shipping a bike between Washington state and Iowa! Thanks for all the input!
