I've been down to one bike a few times. Never askeered to ride the single bike though.

I have a mountain bike beater that just sits......while the Trek 460 "windrider" gets all the attention.

I managed to get down to 2 bike and 2 wheelsets a couple years ago. Now I'm up to 3 complete bikes, one frame being torn down for selling, another ready for an acid dip, 6 wheelsets (2 sets never ridden and all but one will be sold), 2 sets of rims on the way thanks to the Kinlin group buy on this very forum and a partridge in a pear tree...

I could survive with one bike, given that I ride my main road bike 95% of the time.

I've got one. It's the same custom Spectrum Ti bike I've had for many years. Not worried at all. I could buy another bike at any time if I wanted it but I don't want it enough.

I have a slew of bikes. Probably more than I should. One thing holds true regardless of how many or how few you have... What joy is found in a bike that is not ridden? Unless it's an art piece. Sell it fast or ride it.

same here... i wouldn't say i'm actively looking to buy another bike, but i check craigslist every now and then and if i found a good enough deal i'd probably get something as a backup or just to cruise around on.

I don't crash at all actually, but clipless makes me nervous sometimes so use the "red" LOOK pedals to click out fast.
As for anxiety...I'm "bi-polar 2" a mild, non-dangerous form of the disorder. It makes me indecisive; like, should I ride it or not. I go back and forth in just a few minutes, it's very frustrating at times.
Plus, it's a System-Six...They don't make them anymore....But EBAY has lots of frames/built-ups for cheap...
Anyway thanks for the advice guys.
I'm still not riding at the moment since I'm in the process of application/interview for a job and I'm moving out; I have other priorities to worry about TBH.

One road bike, enough parts for a second one, and one MTB that hasn't been ridden in years.
Ride your bike.

I have 1 bike and I have no fear of riding the hell out of it.
I never think about crashing and being without a bike.. I guess if it happens, then I will look for another bike.

Rule 12:
The minimum number of bikes one should own is three. The correct number is n+1, where n is the number of bikes currently owned. This equation may also be re-written as s-1, where s is the number of bikes owned that would result in separation from your partner.

I own two right now, an endurance roadie and a flip-flop fixie. One's for the rides > 20 miles and the other is for the < 20 mile rides that I want intense.
There will probably be two other bikes in my life in the next 12 months: A true beater I can beat with commutes, and a pinky-liftable Felt F series.

I am think I need three bikes maybe four. I have wanted a Calfee Bamboo for many years. I would also like a uber light bike for shorter distances of 40 miles and less for club rides. Something that would help on the hills and maybe make me just a tad faster on the flats. Then, a ti travel bike that will fit in a suit case. I will never get ride of my current bike so that makes four.
The problem is that the cost of all of these bike is more than the cost of a cheap new car. Come to think of it, I would have more fun with them than a cheap new car. Not such a bad deal then.
