OK so I am basically chomping at the bit but my camera and garmin500 are sitting at the house right now. I understand that a lot of folks use the Dashware software. Is there a template I need to use for the software?

Just basically wondering how you combine all the stuff together is all. Nothing important but something I can wrap my mind around for a few hours till I get home :)

You load up your GPS data add the video.
Then you sync them together so the data and video match you then can select an area you want and convert and save the video.
They do have a gage template for cycling data.

I got a Mac to edit the .mov files from the Contour (iMovie, which comes with the Mac). I used Windows Movie Maker for the .wmv files that I imported from the camcorder I used to use (and WMM comes with Windows I think).

I have yet to use the Dashware that someone so generously got for me but I figure it overlays on either. I know it overlays on iMovie.

I'm pretty sure it does. However, I've been taking the feed out of the camera and adding the GPS data in Dashware before I edit it in Movie Maker.

Takes awhile for Dashware to process the whole file, but it seems easier than editing the video first, and then trying to synch each clip in Dashware.

Windows Movie Maker 2011 edits .mov files. It's what I use on my quad-core Windows 7 machine, and it's much quicker than the old version of WMM that came with Windows Vista on my dual-core machine.

I have an older dual-core iMac now that I just erased and reinstalled Snow Leopard on. It had a couple problems that I think I fixed. I'm going to use that to make things like sped-up videos, since iMovie doesn't mute the audio when you change the speed of the video, unlike WMM.

I've been playing with a Blue screen movie in Dashware so I can use Chroma Key in Adobe Premiere to isolate the gauges then make them transparent. It simplifies the process in general and takes out a step which improves video quality. In Premiere you can duplicate the gauge video and mask some gauges so you can hide/show them only when it's relevant. For instance racing along flats it's not necessary to show the route profile. Still playing.

Chasecam promises a rotating compass which will be an improvement on their static compass. All I need is atmospheric info (Chung on a Stick?) and calculations for drag can be made. Fun time wasting stuff. GL
