Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

First Road bike (Allez Elite) and couldn't be happier

Last year I started getting into biking and was using my old mountain bike with road tires, just when I was about to upgrade to a road bike I get rear ended and was out of commission until about a month ago. I've been doing research on bikes recently and just made the move today. I went to my lbs and picked up a 2011 Allez Elite compact($899) Riding this bike compared to my old mountain bike was like night and day, and the position was more relaxed on my herniated disk as well. Can't wait until I get to ride it tomorrow, such a great feeling.
Thats all, just wanted to say how excited I am. Hooray!

In 2006 I commuted on an old full sussy mountain bike with slicks. In the beginning of October I bought myself an early birthday present, a 2006 Allez Elite triple. Eight months later I finished building up a 2006 S-Works Tarmac SL with DA and then did a very hilly double century.
The Allez is like a gateway drug.

I just picked up the same bike but with a reg double. Glad you're enjoying it as much as I like mine.

I see the new Elite has changed some since mine was made. I've got the carbon fork, seatpost, and seat stays with the "zertz" or whatever inserts.

I've also had a history of back issues, mainly golf injuries. I dont feel any discomfort on the allez at all

it doesnt matter what you ride as long as you love it. if you dont love it....get a new bike.

that said, I love my 2011 allez with rival and easton ea90slx wheels....I prefer white frames.

Where's your LBS? That's a great deal @ 899!. I can't seem to find the Elite anywhere for under $1100.

well, not so local. About 30 minutes from me, I bought it at Brands in Wantagh. The guy who sold it kept saying I don't know why its so cheap. Guess I lucked out.

Congrats, man! You got a good deal. I picked up a 2010 Allez Elite Compact late last year for $1050 at my LBS but got the 105 Group. It's a great bike and I've put almost 2K miles on it with no issues.

Enjoy!!

Pronounce it however you want. I do it wrong consistently. Italians are gay. Allez is a gateway drug.

You got a steal, maybe the guy that rang you up just started... The bike @ Brands is listed at $1250.

It's too bad that the Allez Elite no longer comes with the 105 groupo. I think the new Allez Comp is more comparable to the 2010 Elite with the 105s. Yes, the Allez is a gateway drug. Ride on!
