Just picked up a used 2004 Trek 5900 and had a warranty question...

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Just picked up a used 2004 Trek 5900 and had a warranty question...

So the guy that sold it explained how it still has the original warranty. Is that true, if i crash the thing will i be able to have it repaired/replaced under the TREK warranty if im not the original owner?

No, no warranty. You wouldn't get crash damage repaired under warranty, unless the crash was caused by a manufacturing defect (of the frame -- not the rider).

There is a chance they'll give you a crash replacement price if you have a manufacturing defect, but that just brings it down to normal fair frame prices like Giant of Fuji.

I'm going to move this to road cycling also.

No warranty for you. No Cervelo for you. No Zipps for you. And as my pal Dieter used to say in the car business when he was pissed at an annoying customer, no Mercedes for you. Dieter would sometimes add 'dbag', but we won't go there.

Enjoy your new/used Trek. Don't worry, it probably won't break.

Although this is an older thread... I recently found a practically perfect very low miles 2004 Trek 5900 Superlight (100% stock) with the all original factory components including the saddle and it's very well made. This frame and Dura Ace components has surpassed my expectations.

I'm betting it didn't come with a warranty!

Congratulations on finding a nice bike you like.
