Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The Schwinn's first rainy ride since rehab. Pictured here next to something even older than it is - a Franklin.

finally went out on a group ride a little bit up north to find some hills. I hate them...the file said 3900 ft till I enabled corrections then it went to 4900...that seems like a big gap.

Hills all around me here, so I try not to hate them. 1000 ft does seem like a big correction.

that there is sum vibram five finger shoes

some people believing running "barefoot" is somehow more natural and in line with how we evolved

as if to say concrete is natural and our ancestors ran on it lol

but in all seriousness, vibrams are great if youre lifting weight at the gym, because it has no cushioning that will throw you off balance

They are great for short runs. The only problem I had during that race was the asphalt was so hot I could feel it through the shoes.

The 5 finger vibrams might be a fad, but making initial contact with your forefoot instead of "heelstrike" produces less ground reaction force and decreased overuse injuries of the legs (shin splints, medial tibial stress syndrome, etc.) Watch most elite level runners and you will see that they are running on their toes now instead of heel first.

Be nice. Besides, none of these guys know who Abebe Bikila is anyway.
