Jersey length & buckling

I am a short guy (5'3"). I generally stick to getting XS size jerseys that are race/european fit. I just bought the LG Factory Jersey which I love the look of but seems to be a little long in front. Looking in my closet, I have jerseys from multiple manufacturers, with varying (albeit, not a huge vary) length in the front.

One thing that seems to be mostly consistent (especially with full length zippers) is when I am bent over on my bike, the zipper seems to buckle (as opposed to lying flat against my body). It doesn't really flap since my jerseys fit well in the chest.

Is this normal?

I also have a really short in front Cannondale jersey (almost too short) with a full zip and the problem still occurs.

Thanks,
Chad

Yes this is why they make half zip and 3/4 zip jerseys.

Zippers are thicker and stiffer than the jersey material, so it's gonna buckle when you bend over the bars. Are you worried that someone is gonna think you have a beer gut? ;)

So if it is normal, then why does it seem that a lot of people prefer full zip?

Also, how do you know what a good jersey length is?

I like full zip because I can open it up as much or as little as I want in order to keep cool while climbing.

A good length is whatever places the pockets in a comfortable location to reach back for. Oh, and if you refuse to wear bibs, whatever covers your ass.

+1, and not just climbing.
out here it could be really chilly in the morning and then quite sun strong in a few hours, so I wear base layers a lot. Being able to 'vent' well makes for a much more comfortable ride.

also 3/4 length zips; they seem to be 'lighter' weight, more flexible since they don't need all that finish hardware.
