Whats your fav chain lube?
 

I was told by a wrench at my LBS, use wd-40 with rag to clean chain after ride, then lube with what he rec FInish Line ceramic wax.
I ride all in the counrty very dusty,sandy roads.

What do you use for smooth and quiet opearation of your drivetrain?

Also any cleaning tips other than wd-40 and a rag

It probably doesn't matter.

A lot of folks here say WD40 has NO place on a bike chain. Others swear by it.

I am not smart enough to know.

I just drip my favorite (Prolink) on it, then wipe off the excess. Some folks do this after every ride...I do it every few hundred miles.

What really matters the most is that you wipe off the excess lube and the lube on the OUTSIDE of the chain...that just attracts grit. You want the lube to be on the INSIDE.

Use the search function for tons of lube threads, they pop up every couple of months.

Pro Link. After the first time I clean the chain and apply Pro Link, I never have to clean the chain again. Just wipe it down and apply a little more Pro Link once a month (more often during bad weather).

Thanks for reminding me, my lube is prolink too. I don't know where that triflow brain fart came from.

Brainwashing. They seem to hand out samples at every race and charity ride I've ever been to. The small tubes are great for carrying along in case you have to fix a squeak mid ride, though.

Also, I've been told that they have improved Triflow since I tried it (and subsequently got a chain caked with grime) in the mid 90's, but Pro Link works great for me so I have no reason to switch back.

I've been using Chain-L for about 1,000 miles this summer and, even after riding through the rain a couple of days ago, the chain looks and sounds good. That was my only rainy ride though, I'm pretty much fair weather.

I did wipe the outside of the chain w/ mineral spirits a couple times within the first couple of weeks to get the sticky lube off, but haven't touched it since, about 1.5 months ago. It looks like a normally lubed chain, not pristine, but not filthy.

Finish Line Dry Teflon Chain Lube.

Same here. Well, I use the red stuff whatever the model is. You want something that goes on wet and stays wet long enough to wipe down the chain and then dry up so it doesn't absorb dust and dirt. I apply it about every 60 miles or so.

Another vote here for Prolink. And I clean occasionally with mineral spirits.

I'm bigger guy, and I do a lot of climbing. I get 3k miles out of my chains in a dry climate.

KMC X10SL chain.
Rock and Roll Gold.
Drip it into links every other week. Wipe clean.
Remove chain for thorough cleaning every other month. Degreaser. Soak in R'n'R Gold. Q-tips in-between links to remove all crud.
Smooth shifting, quiet running.

A special mix of gear oil, Pedro's synthetic chain lube, 90W tranny oil, and 5W30 Pennzoil synthetic motor oil.

My little squeeze bottle with the metal needle applicator is getting low, so I'll fill it with whatever's handy and add to the mix.
