Favorite Men's Bike Shorts
I am looking for bike shorts for my husband. His Pearl Izumis are causing chafing. Anybody have a favorite?

Assos, but now I regret them because I can't afford more than a pair or two and the PI Elite shorts I liked (and have many of) feel like sandpaper by comparison.

Try something different, and great. Ibex wool cycling shorts and jersey. Merino wool, soft, a miracle fiber that far exceeds all synthetics. Once you try them, you will never go back. Wore it today in 92 degree and 65% humidity conditions.

Black Pearl Bike short by Aerotech Designs. I like them better than my PI Attacks.
|
Assos although Castelli and Descent come in second.
|
Assos FI Mille and Performance Ultra 2. I do like Castelli and Decent too but when I'm spending I buy Assos...can get Castelli on Bonktown from time to time.
|
Just bought a pair of Castelli's that are quite comfortable.
|
Castelli, Giordana, and Campagnolo. Go by the size charts and not S,M,L,XL sizes.
|
Hincapie bib shorts.
http://www.hincapie.com/products/menswear/shorts/ I really like my Campagnolo tights so I may have to give their bib shorts a shot. |

The Louis Garneau bibs I recently purchased are exceptional. More comfortable than my Assos or Giordana.

I realllly like these:

I really like the 2xu bike shorts. They offer great compression and the chamois is pretty thin yet comfortable unlike the pearl izumis which feel like a diaper to me.

IMO for $80, Performance Ultra IIs are better than a lot of shorts that cost three times as much. They've got a good fit, a great chamois and the grid-textured fabric is very low friction and durable.
Also, to solve the chafing issue, get some Body Glide for five bucks and apply liberally to certain unmentionable areas. That stuff is worth its weight in gold. Even after four hours, you'll never have a problem. |
I like 8-panel Canari, especially when on sale for $30.
I also like the Descente shorts I've had in the past. Haven't seen them around much lately, though. |
I currently have the Performance Ultra bibs, Castelli, pearl izumi, and two pair of Voler bibs (one pair is the Hammer Nutrition bib) with the trilogy pad. The Voler bibs are the best of the lot and the Trilogy pad is the best one they have. I have several paid of the Voler recycle bib knickers with the Ionos pad and the trilogy is far better.
I think Voler is having a sale now too. |
I am a new rider. I've been using Sugoi (pronounced sue-goy) RS shorts, and I like them quite a lot. They were recommended by the local bike shop where I bought my bike. I've experienced no saddle-soreness so far, and at least 50% of the credit has to go to these shorts.
(If you go with these shorts, get one size larger.) |
Descente Strada Endurance. Best chamois I have used so far. Centuries are no problem in these.
|
I like my Louis Garneau bibs. They are definitely snug. The chamois is effective. My only complaint is that they, like all shorts I have had, are a bit uncomfortable for the male parts when I stretch or go upstairs. It's probably just me, though.
|
Problem with shorts is that people are a bit different.
So what works for me may not work for him. Voler is good bang for the buck. I like Boure Elite, and they will customize their stuff if you want longer or shorter. http://www.boure.com/1500.html I am a huge fan of their knickers. |
