Input needed

I have been riding for 2 years. Everyday during the summer months.

about a month ago I started getting really bad knee pain in both knees. The only time they hurt are when I am on my bike. Never walking or anything like that.

I took a week off of cycling to see if it was my actual knees. Went for a ride Monday and it is the most they have ever hurt. I was in so much pain I had to stop.

Throughout these weeks I have fiddled with cleat position, saddle height, etc. had no luck, obviously.

I figured I'd call the bike shop by me that does fittings.

I told the guy i wanted to do the retul fit. Not sure why i chose this one over the advanced fit probably chose the retul because of the description they used. The Retul is $250. the advanced fit is $125

So basically is the retul fit worth the extra money or am I just over thinking it? Do I really need that advanced of a bike fit as a recreational rider?

What is a Retul Fit?

Do you follow the basic saddle height adjustment of having your knees only slightly bent when at the bottom of the pedal stroke while clipped on?

If so, the issue is most likely something else other than a fit issue for something that causes knee pain like you described.

After you make your adjustments, you will have to let your knees heal before you ride. The only thing that has caused me knee pain was cleat position & low cadence. But I have had a good fitting on my bike, $50.00 at LBS where I purchased my bike. Loosen your pedals where your feet can float & find a comfortable knee position & keep the cadence high, above 85. Good luck.

here's the website for the retul fit. www.retul.com I'm just going to do the advanced fit. Don't want to spend $250 on a bike fitting

yeah I did everything the internet said about seat height and knee bend.

@Rdinnmurrary

For the most part my cadence is about 85, except when I'm relaxing. Every ride I average over 85 cadence so I don't think that is the problem.

About the cleat position. I think that's probably a cause of the pain in the knees.

I guess that's why I'm going to get fitted :p

thank to you two for your input.
