Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Personally, I don't see the point in a $75 pump when something a little more than 1/3 of that works perfectly. I have this, it pumps 100% reliably, i consider it good.

I done the research on ToBee-Broken Tips Model= Joe's Blow Up doll.
Its a $35 Performance Mid range pump. I know a Few guys at the local Performance Bike Shop. Both buddys even told me there are Hoe-Blow Tips that seem to give out more Than there 24.99 House Brand Hurricans .

That had more puns than an episode of Real Time with Bill Mahr.

That said, getting past all of your "humor," I've had it for about a year and a half now, using it every couple days, no issues whatsoever. YMMV.

I've had a cheap $30 Blackburn floor pump and it worked great for about a year and a half until the head started wearing out. I bit the bullet and picked up a Lezyne Alloy Floor Drive at a LBS (paid a good bit than that REI price, too) and have been pretty happy with it. Lezyne sells replacement hoses should the pump head wear out (which I believe will take some time due to the threaded head instead of the usual snap-on/snap-off heads on most pumps).

I have 3 pumps that most people will suggest on here when you ask about pumps, listed in order of purchase:

Silca Pista
Specialized Air Tool Pro
Lezyne Floor Drive

Of these I use the Air Tool Pro and Floor Drive the most and the Silca got relegated to my office. The thing that I like about the Floor Drive is that the head threads onto the valve so it doesn't matter if you are starting from completely flat and if you stem is maybe a bit too short or a smooth one...the head of the pump ISN'T coming off and your air is going in. That said I think the Air Tool Pro is actually more efficient (haven't tested this just a feeling I have) assuming the pump head stays on the valve stem.

Silca Pista
Specialized Air Tool Pro
Lezyne Floor Drive

I hear They are top 3 to chose from.. I found that the Lezyne has had Far less bad ratings over all and Seems people are happy with them on the bike forums.

I would like to know more about the Specialized Air Tool Pro VS Lezyne Floor Drive

Thanks

Lezyne steel floor is very good, years with no issues. It was my third, after several cheaper models I kept taking back to the store and swapping up, paying the difference.
Get the Alloy if you want flash and cosmetics over function.

+1 on the Lezyne...

It was my 3rd pump from different manufacturers and it's worth the cost...

I like the fact that is securely screws onto the valve and there is no leakage as you pump, therefore the gauge is not bouncing up and down. I also like how you can easily swap out the screw on top, for a crack pipe (90deg angle push on adapter) to use on the TT disk wheel.

Lastly I love how easily you can pump tubbies up to 145psi...I'm skinny ass climber, who has trouble doing that with a lot of cheaper pumps...

I liked the pump so much that I bought a second after I left my original one in Georgia, at a friend's place, even though I had a Topeak Joe Blow in the basement

My experience is the Specialized is the best value out there. They are inexpensive and work very well. The Lezyne costs twice as much but doesn't leak. The down side is they require you to thread the head on the valve stem and can cause valves to come off stems on some tubes. The other is you can't use them with smooth valves.

The Lezyne screws on the top part of the presta valve, where the valve cover would screw on...All tubes have this...

And yes you can remove the valve core if the tube has a removal one, but in those cases I just make sure not to tighten the pump head down tight and so far I have not had an issue...

I don't know about their floor pumps, but the Lezyne frame pump is outstanding. It is light, works well and pumps a tire fast with little effort. I have them on all the bikes at home.

Yes it is worth it, but you don't have to pay that much if you shop online. Here is one for $47.95.

https://www.cycleclubsports.com/p-551...mp-silver.aspx

You can buy a cheaper pump that will work well for a while but you will end up either throwing it away or rebuilding it. My Joe Blow Pro has been completely rebuilt. I replaced the head twice, the gauge once and the oring in the plunger twice and it is still not even close to being as good a pump as my Lezyne.

If you want a pump that will last you forever, buy a Lezyne.

Do you NEED a quality pump like a Lezyne? No, cheap pumps work. But if you appreciate quality, get a Lezyne! Every time I put the air hose into it's resting place, and hook the pump head into it's cradle, I smile at how much better the Floor Drive is!

yeah, financially, it might not be "worth it" on the accountant's books, but its a beautiful thing and will last a long time. If I didn't already have a perfectly functional Bontrager pump, I would probably get the Lezyne.

You know that's a good sales job. Because when you have years of cycling under your belt, it gets a little ridiculous buying a new pump every few years.

Been thru the Lezyne frame pumps. Actually switched from the Road Morphs on 4 bikes to the Lezynes, and I prefer the Topeaks.

They don't look as good as the Lezyne, but they clamp on easier, and had never failed. One Lezyne had a leak, and I HATE the screw on adapter. As and when they die, I will go back to the Road Morphs.

I think I'm going through exactly the same thing right now. The head on my 3 year old Blackburn Air Tower 1 wouldn't seal on some new tubes, and since the tubes had smooth valve stems which I'd never used before, I blamed the tubes and exchanged them for tubes with full threads like I have always used. Well, the head doesn't seal on those any more either. I guess I'll at least ask about getting a new head, but it's probably time for a better pump. Nothing wrong with the pump body that I know of.

edited to add: Just called Blackburn customer service at (800) 456-2355. They are sending me a new head, no questions asked.

I love stuff that is over engineered and built to last. It is hard to find stuff made as well as Lezyne floor pumps. Most products are built to be disposable. Since I plan to ride for the rest of my life, I want my bike stuff to last that a long.

I like my Lezyne Steel Floor Drive. The screw-on head means no more worries about securely connecting to short valve stems going through deep dish rims. I think I paid about $50.

I have a JBPro now. So far so good. I was going to buy a 2nd pump as a worksite pump (for commuting to work instead of driving) for about $30. or so, but then thought; "Hey! This is a perfect excuse to get the Lezyne Alloy I'm lusting after!" So, the JBP will be the 2nd pump now. I have to say, so far, so good. It's served me well. But I can't wait to get a Lezyne.

I'm a firm believer in the "Buy It Once" mantra.
A good quality product will be worth the cost.
It's a balance of value that I look for.

Yes I was always forced to buy the extra long valve stem tubes for my 30mm rims because getting the Joe Blow on was a PITA....Now I can run the proper length valve since it's simple twist on with the Lezyne....
