And you will be picking at your skin cancer removal scabs? ;)

Stupidest thread of the week. You boys know that Velominati is a joke right?

ErichM 07-09-11 08:21 PM

Tongue in cheek is probably the more appropriate phrase.

idc 07-09-11 08:41 PM

I don't care because I'm not pale, so they're not really obvious. My wife thinks they're amusing anyway (the ones on my hands from gloves).

Used to referee soccer - very proud of the funny tan lines at the bottom of shorts and top of socks. Earned 'em. Same with biking lines. Earned.

kenji666 07-09-11 09:44 PM

Earned in the tanning bed. ;)

If you live in a rural area they just call them Farmer Tans and you just fit in.

caloso 07-10-11 01:00 AM

No biggie for me. I tan very easily so my farmer tan is pretty much set the first shortsleeve ride of the year.

hooligancyclist 07-10-11 01:13 AM

Nah, I've had quite a few friends die of cancer, so sunscreen every ride for me.

caloso 07-10-11 11:55 AM

Sunscreen for me too. I still tan, even with 50 spf, thanks to the Mexican skin I inherited from my mom.

Man, you are worried about what they are saying about your tan lines when you ride in spandex with a big Kotex between your legs? Who cares what they think.

Yes, we look rediculous when riding, but I'd prefer to not look rediculous at the beach as well if I can help it. I think there a difference between an incidental tan line and one that is carefully cultivated for the sake of impressing other enthusiasts.

Hello All -

For most of my time riding, I have been proud of the distinct cyclist's tan lines that we all get on our upper arms and legs from riding a lot. I always understood that the more obvious the tan line, the more dedicated rider you are. Tan line pride! Show off you're a cyclist! :thumb:

However, there are times in the year where I find myself doing outdoor activities either with no shirt (ie swimming on our annual family vacation to the lake), or an athletic shirt with no sleeves (it's just cooler in the hot summers) and I don't find myself surrounded with people that share an appreciation of my cyclist's tan. Instead, I get a bunch of wiseguys. The leg tan lines don't present any problem, obviously, but I was wondering if anyone has ever tried to "fix" their arm tan lines.

Anybody ever tried any techniques for tanning your upper arms to "catch up" with the rest?

Tanning lotion?

Wearing only arm warmers in the sun?

Let the fun begin.

How about your stretch marks since your last pregnancy?

Gets the conversation started, son.

Do they have women out in Idaho?

They have topical creams for that now. It's been working pretty well for me.

Here's a recent shot of us on our Zona tandem . . .

Believe it or not, stoker Kay has ridden as many miles as I do on tandems (230,000+ miles since 1975).
However she burn easily and uses lotsa sunscreen; I tan fast an only use sunscreen on my nose/ears if I ride longer than 4 hours.
BTW we live in southern Arizona where the sun shines 13 months out of the year.
Pedal on!

+Insert streetlight joke here.

Cycling has made me super fit. Having cyclist tan lines negates what I do to make my body look good. Whenever I get a chance to lay out by the pool, I wear a speedo and slather on high SPF on the parts that are normally exposed when I ride and let the rest of it burn. In three weekends of doing this, my cyclist tanlines have disappeared and I'm tan all over. If you are embarrassed to wear a speedo, you shouldn't be since you already wear Lycra and aren't embarrassed by it!

Probably not a bright idea.
