Anybody having cramps at night?
If I'm not careful at night in bed, and cavalierly let my legs bend, the hams cramp. Is it just me?

I did until someone here suggested drinking tonic. Make sure label says "Contains quinine".

I use to have them occur often when I was a swimmer. As rdubbz suggested, stretching before working out helps.

I don't recommend stretching much before cycling, only after. Just slowly warm up on the bike before getting your suffer on.

I've taken to cutting up tabs of Mag, Potassium and Calcium, into 4 qtrs and then poppin a set in the eve, whenever I do a hard ride over 40 mi.
seems to cut the cramp-maggedon down to almost never... almost...

This happened to me in my early 40's. I ride more now and no longer get cramps. Stretching regimen is unchanged, and I eat well. The difference I think is the massages. Once a month focusing on the legs, and I own a handheld massager that REALLY helps after rides>20 miles.

I take Hyland's Quanine tabs. Get 'em in the herbal treatments aisle. Good stuff. Or you could drink tonic water.

Endurolytes from Hammer Nutrition should stop it. I used to get calf cramps occassionally while riding, but since taking Endurolytes I haven't had a single cramp yet.

Stretching on long rides only helps me sometimes, but I still stretch. I started taking Potassium supplements every night and haven't had a leg cramp since I started taking them. I also use a heat messager, 1/2 hour each leg, while watching TV at night and that really helps. To eliminate tightness of the legs after long rides, I just take a hot shower and let the hot water run down the legs for about 5 minutes. I do it longer if I am on a multi day ride and I'm showering in a hotel as they virtually never run out of hot water.
