DT Swiss 350 hubs

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

DT Swiss 350 hubs

Hey all. I'm building a set of wheels, but I'm see-sawing over the hubs. It's a stand-off between DT Swiss 350 and Ultegra 6700. Prices are similar (ish), but the DT's are almost 100g lighter and come in 28h - Ultegra's come in 32h 0r 36h.

Hubs are gonna be laced into Velocity A23 or Aerohead rims (not quite set on which rims either - test riding a set of A23's ATM) with DT Swiss Comp spokes. These are gonna be my "weekend" wheels, as I commute on a set of DT 1900's (with the 370 hubs - which have been bulletproof). I also intend to take them to France next year for a Sportive through the alps.

I'm about 78kg on a 60cm CAAD9 / Ultegra.

Anyone have experience with the DT 350's? I'm not looking at any other hubs (i've looked into HEAPS)- it's only gonna be either of these.

Thanks.

Just about every budget custom build here uses those.

You should be fine with either hubset. I would personally choose the Ultegra hubs. You can also go with Shimano 105 hubs to save some money. Shimano hubs use loose ball bearing and DT hubs use sealed cartridge bearings. The flange geometry of the rear Shimano hubs is better than the DT Swiss hubs.

OK, good enough for me. I posted in the mechanic forum as well, and it seems that the general consensus holds more confidence in the Shimano hubs - at this budget level at least.

I know the 100g thing is pretty silly really, it's just that these days "a few grams" seems to foreshadow everything.
