help with wheelset choices

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

help with wheelset choices

I dont have a lot of knowledge when it comes to wheelsets. I currently have a set of cane creek aeroheads that weigh in at 1920g. not broken, still true but I'm thinking about jumping into a lighter set. at this point If I'm going to make a jump its gonna have to be for a wheelset around 1500g. I dont want to spend the money on a wheelset that is only going to differ in 300g because I dont really think it will make enough difference in benefit to cost ratio. I'm looking to stay at or under the $500 mark and the only options I personally know about that are worthwhile are the soul 3.0 LS and reynolds solitude set. both $500 and weigh in around the 1500g mark.

what are some other options?

I ride a ridley scandium. 5'10' 175lbs and do a lot of hill climbing.

Please dont take this the wrong way cuz internet chat doesn't have tone of voice, so I'm really not trying to be a smart ass. like I said above, my knowledge on wheels is minimal. I know some of the bigger brands but I know there are some brands out there that I personally haven't heard of but I'm sure would be great for me. So just saying there are several options on ebay doesn't help me at all. I appreciate the attempt to guide me in the right direction, but that answer basically leaves me with what I already know. again not trying to be difficult.

Light. Under $500. Tubeless. I bought mine there as well, good service, liked 'em enough to buy a trainer through them as well.

Look into Boyd, Williams, Psimet and Soul. Lots of praise for all of them here on the forums and there in your price range.

thanks for the tips guys. I'm leaning towards the Boyd set at this time. Anyone know anything about replacement parts? If a spoke brakes do i need/can I buy a replacement from them? I asked my friends at my LBS and none of them, even the mechanics new anything about the Boyd sets. The one thing they asked me to look into is replacement parts and if it would be difficult to get them when/if something brakes.

We use j-bend CX Ray spokes so if something were to happen you could easily just replace a single spoke. Most shops don't stock CX Ray spokes as they are very expensive, but you can use a regular double butted spoke until the CX Ray is sent to you. Brass nipples are also used to make sure they stay durable and for easy adjustment should you need it.

I've always got to be different. If someone wanted DT 240 hubs would you go that route? If so, cost difference? Just to prove I'm a buyer..
