The Gorilla is awesome.

Adding moving parts to a seat post seems like a recipe for bad things to eventually happen.

shouldberiding 07-15-11 08:55 PM

Looks like it belongs on a camera tripod.

DropDeadFred 07-15-11 08:58 PM

if youre carrying a multi tool anyways....whats the point?

With this seat post, you can adjust the height without stopping. May not be warranted for most, but according to the article, Basso is using it in the Tour.

I'd like to see video of somebody reaching between their legs to adjust the seatpost while riding. Without crashing. Bonus points for doing it in a field of riders.

Personally, I think I'd end up in the hospital if I tried it.

it might be nice to use on your fitting rig but for me seatposts are usually a one time setup and never touched after I find the right spot.

FactVord 07-15-11 10:45 PM

Until I hijack a teammates' bike because I'm more awesome, I don't see the practical application. Call me a realist.

IMO it's a classic "solution in search of a problem".

Did you read the article? Basso has a reason he likes to do it.

Yeah, his sponsor's new toy that they want to sell to poseurs in TdF kit for way too much money just happens to be exactly what he wanted. What a coincidence.

DropDeadFred 07-16-11 01:06 PM

yeah i don't buy for a second that its even beneficial...it's just a gimicky toy...something extra to sell...he has a support vehicle that can practically rebuild his bicycle without stopping...Im pretty sure they can adjust his seat plus he'd get to rest for a second while they did so...and how many stages has he won with this new toy? seems effective...

The pros put on and remove items of clothing while riding in the field. This is simple in comparison.

id totally buy, i mean at 200 pounds of furry, i like to have a little adjustability :p

rat fink 07-16-11 04:36 PM

Eddy Merckx could definitely have used one (although I think what he would have really benefited from, are modern fit options).

I have adjusted my Thomson seat post while riding numerous times. Don't make me post the video of the guy adjusting his rear derailleur barrel adjuster while riding.
