Tubeless Wheelset

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Tubeless Wheelset

Talk to me about tubeless wheelset!

the only thing i know is they work like car wheels....making them tougher??

I've been tempted to buy a new set of rims, and start thinking about jumping on a tubeless pair, yet i dont hear enough about them, is this new technology for road bikes??

there are very few choices right now..

discuss

by the way i saw what seems to be a good deal on a tubeless wheelset:

Road tubless has been around since about 2006. Go to https://www.notubes.com/Default.aspx for additional information.

A few companys are making tubeless wheelsets and tubeless tires, but after five years, I think support of the format is still meager. I don't know of any professional riders that use them. If they want something better/lighter than a clincher, they use sewups. Some on BF swear by them, but I have a Shimano tubless wheelset that I bought in 2006 and gave up on tubeless after about a year and now use regular tires and tubes with them.

They seem to be popular for MTB.

They have been the next "big thing" for the past few years.

Still does not have critical mass.

Main benefit is no more pinch flats. Some say performance/feel is better but this is subjective.

Search and draw your own conclusions.

In all honesty, I think tubeless is the future of road cycling wheels. It just makes sense. That future is however some years and technological breakthroughs away.

For starters, big and important tire makers like Conti, Michelin, Vittoria etc have to come on board in a big way.

I'll pass on current tubeless road technology right now, but I very much suspect I'll be on tubeless wheels in another three to five years.

Yeah, do a search on Road Tubeless and you'll find all the info you need. They're really great; I've done many 200k rides on multiple bikes and won't go back to the oldyn-tyme obsolete tubed tires.
