Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What to buy

I know you guys (gals too, I suppose) love to see postings like this, but here it is - If you got to choose either a Cervelo S2 or a Specialized Tarmac which one would you take? I am leaping from the hybrids to a road bike because I have outgrown the hybrid and really love riding fast. What do ya guys think?

Mike

Ride them both and get the one you like best. If they are equal in the ride test, get the one you like the looks of better. If you put Lance on either bike in a race the difference would be zero. It's all about which one feels better to you. Kinda like buying a pair of shoes. Which one fits you best, both comfort and style. Good luck.

Beyond above post which I agree with, I would prefer the Cervelo due to the engineering and frame design built in. A true racers
rig. I believe components would be equal.........Ultegra 6700?

I would buy the Tarmac, personally. You though, should buy whichever bike feels better to you after you ride it, and you should factor in the price as well. Both bikes are very nice, and I'm assuming you are comparing two 6700 bikes.

I say Tarmac because I thought the bike was more responsive and handled better than the Cervelo. I also don't like the connotation that comes with riding a Cervelo. I don't know why, but it seems like people have the tendency to automatically think you're an ******* when you ride one.... kind of like the BMW syndrome. Not all BMW drivers are jerks, but for some reason everyone thinks they are.

I would assume both are from LBS ? I would consider service, all things being equal. I'm a Specialized guy tho.

Hi Phil and thanks for responding. I agree with you whole-heartedly. The reason I ask though, is because of the experiences others have on the respective bikes. I am not just interested in the bike itself, but components and warranties from the manufacturers, as well.

If that's the case, Specialized will be incredibly easy to deal with in terms of warranty issues. They offer a non-transferrable lifetime warranty and being based in America with such a huge dealer network, it will be cake.
