Well, I got called a *** today ... by a guy in an SUV nonetheless!

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I challenged him to a sprint race to the stop sign about 3/4 mile straight ahead. To add spice I called him a dumb fat ***** too. Needless to say he agreed. Just before the light goes green I get a jump on him. Ten seconds later he blasts past giving me barely a foot or two of room. He's obviously floored the thing as the exhaust is blowing smoke. The cop who sits on the side-road a few hundred yards past the intersection was more than happy to get some activity. I slowed to a crawl as I went past and smiled sweetly as I gave the Tahoe guy the finger.
Man...that is priceless!!!

when I was living in Kingston, I got sideswiped by a SUV, came too close and knocked me on my side...I was really okay...except for a few cuts and bruises...the guy gets out of his truck, walks over to me lying on the ground, with bystanders, and said, "should have watched where you were going..", considering he ran into me, I kicked the side of the door with my cycling shoes and left a nice momento on his door. I said, "yeah I guess I should have" He threatened to call the cops, which I thought was ridiculous now taht I was standing, but I enlightened him to the fact that my partner was a lawyer, and that I would sue to personal damages, emotional distraught. He quickly got into the car and drove away.

Plus, he hasn't seen his d*ck in many years without the aid of a mirror.

But you know what makes it all worth it? When you spy in your rear-view mirror some babes in the car behind you checking you out, giggling, laughing, pointing. Then they call out to you when they pass, or wave, or just smile... AHHHH

A balm to a mid-life heart!

"All people who drive SUV's are horrible. I can't stand them! Who do they think they are owning these monstrosities? I have never met one person I like who drives one of these things. Good story...I met this hot chick once who I believe was my soulmate. Everything was going fine until I found out her Great Aunt on her Father's side used to own one of these carbon monoxide belching behemoths. I ended the relationship on the spot.
Oh, by the way, I own a cherokee."

And I'll bet you still don't know why your side lost the election!

Sorry, I read on to see it was tongue in cheek!

"WTF is up with "No disrespect...?"

This is classic. Maybe the guy was gay and just wanted to warm you up the the "no disrespect". As a kayaker, I'm used to wearing funny clothes (it's a rubber skirt for God's sake), so I didn't think twice about wearing bike gear.

Y'all gotta ride in Canada. I've only been yelled at once, and it was by a young woman who screamed, "nice ass".

seriously, there is a big gay cruising park/forest in the west end of town, most of teh vehicles parked there are pickups and SUVs.

I think your SUV driver got aroused.

Here's an interesting thought.

Most road have a maximum weight limit, for city & rural roads it ususally around 5 tonnes.
Guess how much Hummers weigh ohh about 8 tonnes.
Guess how much most oversized SUV'S weigh, about 5-7 tonnes
So legally, most of these vehicles should not even be on the main roads

A ton is 2000 pounds. The hummer weights 4 tonnes. Most SUV's are in the 2-3 tonne category. Read your own link.

Lies, damn lies, and statistics?

Not to let Hummers off too easily, but:

Curb weight (usually vehicle plus all operating fluids) of a H2 is 6400lbs = 3.2 tons. Gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) is different too... it's the weight of the vehicle with a full payload. I'd guess the average H2 with a few passengers and kit is around 7000 lbs.

Heaviest Chevy Suburban is around 3 tonnes curb weight, right on that 6000 lb limit (so would be over it with the driver on board).

Most of the vehicles on the list in that article would only exceed the 6000 lb limit with a completely full payload.

Outrageously oversized vehicles, but not THAT heavy!

And you found that out how, exactly?

Not to be completely politically incorrect, but those vehicles could be owned by women.
Or (for you Canadians) lumberjacks.
Or even Royal Mounties. ("I'm a lumberjack...")

BTW, great Triplets of Belleville avatar; loved the artwork in the film, offbeat cycling story.

The best response I've found is that when some yahoo yells this, ride up to the car and say (in a really sincere voice):

"So let me get this straight: You're looking at my ass, but I'm the one who's gay?"

When you do this, make sure you're clipped in and in a good gear to take off, because the usual reaction is rage.

What? After November 2nd you guys STILL have gay people in the U.S.A??? I thought they got sent to Iraq.

I'm not sure what's disturbing, being called a ***, or caring if someone calls you a ***.

we had an annual aids ride come thru our town a number of times. If you truely want to see happy (gay) people on bikes, this was the time. some very interesting costumes. Also made the bar seen in our little farming community quite interesting for one night per year. kept coming back so we must have behaved OK. also quite aware a good % were not gay, but supporting the cause.

I don't think I have ever felt angrier than when a bottle smashed between my wheels as a jeep passed with a guy hanging out the window going "AAAAAAAAAA". Convinced I would eventually catch them I dropped the hammer. Unfortunately (or fortunately, I'm not much of a fighter) my chain slipped off my single speed, went down hard and separated my shoulder. Good times....
