Tire issue
I have a pair of Continental GP4000 "S" tires. They have been great but now I have threads/strings peeling away from the tire on the side where the tire meets the rim. It's happening on both tires. They still have plenty of tread left and the performance is not affected. Is this a common issue? Also, what other tire is a good choice if I decide to replace these? I have emailed Continental , but they have not responded. Thanks.

I have had that happen on my Gatorskins. I continue to ride them. I don't think it's something to be overly concerned about, as long as you keep an eye on the sidewalls to ensure they're not bulging or cut.

I get a few of these sometimes. Just cut them off. I think it's normal.
Why would anyone want anything other than these tires?? I don't get that. |
normal on some tires.

I've experienced the same thing with Gator Skins, no effect on wear.

Those threads are coming from the chafer strip. This is a bit of 'cloth' that wraps around the bead.
Continental tires seem to be prone to this. Don't pull them. Cut them. My tires are currently doing the same thing. No cause for concern. |
Very common for Continental tires. Get that all the time for Conti Sport, Ultra race etc. I just leave it be
