I was pondering this as I was sitting on my couch watching the Kona Ironman.
After seeing some of the athlete's stories, I decided that I needed a serious dose of HTFU.

I doubt you will ever see a bike race end like this.

Tri is harder. You have to accept ****ting your pants while riding (or so I hear).

cool beard bro

dolanp 07-19-11 08:31 AM

Depends on what you're comparing. A real Ironman triathlete rides 113 miles in between swimming and running, and he/she does it fast. He/She would be a better athlete and cyclist than almost everyone on this forum. But if you're comparing it to the Tour de France and pro cyclists, they are obviously better cyclists. TdF is harder overall because it is thousands of miles. Your local TT or crit is not as hard as an Ironman.

datlas 07-19-11 08:32 AM

Assuming this is not a troll, the answer is "it depends"

The thing about being a triathlete is you can be a so-so "recreatonal" type athlete and still do a tri. The same cannot be said about a bicycle RACE.

However if you want to be a GOOD triathlete I think that's harder than being an equivalently good cyclist.

This veiled triathlete parody thread is escaping :P

LOL...that was awesome.

slowandsteady 07-19-11 10:10 AM

Well, if you don't know how to swim, I would say competing in a triathlon would be harder.
