Brake pads for 90's Shimano 105?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Are the cartridges removable? I seem to remember older 105s with removable/replaceable cartridges. Pics?

Early 90's or late (9 speed and up) 90's? If early, I believe the pads for 600/Ultegra 6403 brakes will work. It's a pain because they have a slightly smaller hole than more recent brakes, so you can't upgrade the pads or even shoes.

No, early 90s. No cartridge, just the shoes or pads screw into the arm that hangs down from the brake assembly. My pads are hard as rocks.

Try the 600/Ultegra pads (pads and shoes combined) for 6403 brakes. When I needed them 2 years ago, Performance in Pasadena had them for less than $10/pair.

Anybody know if any of the Kool Stop pads/shoes would work on my early 90s Shimano 105?

They don't. As I mentioned above, they use a slightly larger hole. I tried this a few years ago and it didn't work. Unless you feel like drilling it out (remember it's an oval hole), no bueno. I emailed Kool Stop to change their description since it currently says fits ALL 105, Ultegra, and Dura Ace, and that's obviously not the case.

Check your PMs as I may have a solution for you.
