Is your frame real?
I am looking into a new bike frame. I was on evilbay and saw some of the fake carbon frames that are be painted and labeled as Pinarellos.
https://cgi.ebay.com/Pinarello-Frames...item6b1bb40677
Come on can anyone stop this? People are being ripped off and evilbay just takes the money and runs. I am also into guitar and Gibson had to battle the fakes and won. Evilbay will not and can not list the fakes with out Gibson filing a law suit. Maybe it's time the for the bile companies to step up to the plate and start filing some law suits. Selling a bare frame is one thing, but using a brand name is a different ball game.
So just beware of that new Dogma at a killer price.

At least that listing tells you it's a fake.

It is not listed as being "real" at least...so, you'd guess the buyer either doesn't care (ie, believes CF is CF but he/she would rather the downtube say Pinarello instead of Motobecane) or is trying to impress someone with a name...maybe? All I know is that the Momo police axed a vintage sports car steering wheel I had listed on Ebay once years ago only because I listed it as "Momo bolt pattern"...which, is somewhat of a practical standard having to do with the number of bolts & orientation (US-made are 5 bolt, and Nardi + some other Italian wheels are 45 degrees off). My reply was that Momo obviously didn't think much of their product if they believed a steering wheel from a 1979 Fiat could be confused with their very expensive products. They weren't amused, I was, and that's off-topic. Point is only that that the buyer is unlikely fooled. The 2nd hand buyer may be and a copyright is surely violated. My limited legal understanding is the copyright is only as strong as its holder chooses to enforce it.
Wait, really, what I was going to say is steel is real!

I guess if Pinarello doesn't care that they are being ripped off why should I.
I see a law suit filed when the frame fails with Pinarello name on it and they know nothing about.
This just one more to never use eivlbay.
Gibson did sue Eivlbay and won. This is why all the fakes Gibsons are gone.

Are there people buying these frames thinking it is actually a Pinarello? Most of the ebay frames I've seen does not really claim their frames are actually the real thing.
OP must be a Pinarello owner

At minimum it is copyright/trademark infringement. I am sure their lawyers have already drafted the cease and desist order. This is hardly the first knock off product in the history of the world. Go to any major city in America and this is what you will see.

Pinarello is aware of this but can do nothing to stop it, ebay can't stop them because they are not violating ANYTHING. Just go to their website and they'll have a big ad stating "BEWARE OF FAKE PINARELLO".
If you want to spend $2000+ on a bike I would HIGHLY recommend you buy from an LBS or one of your trusted etailers. Otherwise there are plenty of people with less cash on hand that would buy chinese carbon and build their own bike.
I don't know why you call it evilbay...

Fausto Pinarello says: “It’s not just a sticker that makes a Pinarello but unfortunately some people think so. They are found mainly online and are fake bikes, copies of our frames, made with inferior materials compared to the Toray carbon which we use on our top models. Structurally they are not only less efficient, but they are also more fragile and hence at risk of failure which can cause injury to the rider. We ask all road race enthusiasts to pay greater attention and today, begin to campaign in order to raise the awareness across all cycling media productions worldwide. Pinarello does not sell online; we prefer that the client has direct contact with us or with our resellers; this ensures and guarantees a high quality bike at the time of their purchase.”

I doubt that the road race enthusiast do not pay attention to the frame they are purchasing. Most of these purchases are done with full knowledge of what they are doing. Consumers are not being duped to believe they are buying the real thing, they buy because they want a copy of what they believe is a "status symbol".
"Come on can anyone stop this? People are being ripped off and evilbay just takes the money and runs."
Do you really believe they are getting ripped off? There is a market for this because people want it. If you actually believe that they are authentic wake up and smell the coffee. Once they start selling thse items at a boutique or a regular bike shop and pass them off as the genuine article, then that is a problem. Otherwise, it is a choice by the end user.

My frame is definitely not real. Ebay carbon FTW. Paid $300 for a frame/fork/seatpost.
$3000 worth of adhesive vinyl doesn't make a bike safer.

Wait. Mine is spelled with just one "l". Is that why it was so cheap?
