foot stretching
I just got back on the bike (still on the trainer) after a hiatus. Feeling a small, sharp pain when walking normally on my foot, like in the middle of the arch. Do you guys stretch your feet to help with this sort of thing?

naw im just wondering if a bit of pain in the arch of your foot is something that can be worked out with stretching. this is after only an hour and a half on the bike over 2 days.

If it becomes persistent you could try a Strassburg sock.

I'd think there must be a stretching exercise for that part of the foot although I'm not at the moment, aware of any. Have you tired a good arch support? That may be very worth while consideration.

How does one stretch one's feet? I could see getting a foot massage, but stretching your foot seems impossible without some sort of medieval torture device.
I think it's just a matter of HTFU. You said yourself it was your first couple of rides in a while. If there was pain while riding I would say it's a shoe problem, but post ride soreness is normal.

yep. also, stretch your calves, particularly the lateral aspect. you could also do some exercises to strengthen the arch of the foot, like scrunching up a towel with your toes.

Another thing to do is to put your foot on a dumbbell (with some 5 lb plates on each end) and roll it around. It can hurt like hell if you have some hot spots but it seems to work wonders for me.

Try going barefoot as much as possible and building up the muscles in your feet.
