Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Back Problems

Hello It still hasn't been one year since I started road biking and I'm already having a back problem ( Im still 16). Whenever I ride aggressively or when I'm climbing a steep hill i start to feel pain in my lower back. Is this just a common symptom of riding or do I have problems with my bike?

I've had my share of back issues including a severly bulged disc, and two things have made all the differnce:

1) Losing 30 lbs
2) Working on my core strength

If you don't need to lose weight, definitely work on your core. If you need to lose weight, do both!

I do leg lifts every morning to strengthen my abdominal muscles & it has made a difference. Try it.
