I got booted from my group ride because I'm a triathlete (seriously).

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Went with 105 actually. A BMC SR02, it matches my 29er perfectly, and was a pretty good price for a 105 bike.

I don't understand the angst of the "Road guys" and him on a TT bike, SINCE he stated he doesn't get onto the aero bars in line, (unless he's leading,) And I'm sure if they had asked him not to do that either, he wouldn't have.
You all have me wondering how I am going to be greeted tomorrow evening at the first group ride I am going to do with a club here in NC. It's a "Beginners" ride, no drops. (I hope they don't boot me because I have the aero bars on my Allez!) OF course I won't get on them at all in the ride, but I did pull about 5 miles straight on them Saturday when I did a measly 22.4 miles, with the last 8 or so into a 3-5 mph headwind. The aeros helped me on that allot and I LIKE being on them when the conditions allow. (Little traffic, because yes,, I CAN'T stay as steady on them as I can upright)

Di2 is fascinating because it is not Vaporware, and yet, it is.

Shimano Dura Ace Di2 is not Vaporware.

Shimano Ultegra Di2 is Vaporware.

So you can have your cake and not eat it too.

And the plot thickens: I got a message on facebook from one of the guys in the group, he saw this thread and decided to tell me what happened. The wife of one of the riders had a run in with a triathlete on a local bike path over the weekend and he decided to jump in with the other 2 who didn't like my bike and they convinced the rest of the group that I was an accident waiting to happen. He seemed apologetic, and stood up for me with another rider, but they eventually gave in to the very angry guys who wanted me out. Seems like it was partially about the bike, and partially about one guy getting really pissed off that some guy in a sleeveless jersey almost hit his wife and taking it out on me.

Soooo...she's skiddish around Tri-guys...possibly something that might have been her fault (not saying it is) but she turned the screws and the mens balls shrank. Obviously you aren't sweating it now that you have an explanation, but if those guys are reading this thread then I'd suggest they find a new pair.

I had a dream a few nights ago where I was out riding and people kept throwing rocks at me and chasing me on foot trying to hit me. Eventually I found out they were mad at me because I was wearing a sleeveless jersey. I think it must be all the triathlete threads in this section that caused that dream...

Actually pcad, some of the 2012's have it already spec'd and you'll be able to run your greasy hands over the shifters very very soon.

I am waiting for the part where one of OP's riding buddies responds to this thread. Maybe even the guy whose wife had a run in with the tri-bike...

That would complete the high school drama.

Now that we have the real story let's look back at your original statement. The answer was there from the beginning...

Ok, good setup. Unfortunately it raised the red herring argument of "Road Nazi Vs. Tryathlete"

This is the sort of discussion I'd expect to see in "Sex and the City." I can never bring myself to watch that show with my GF, but once in a while things are pretty similar right here in BF! What's even funnier is that some of the people who have responded here are probably from that very same group.

PS: I think you know the answer very well yourself: 1.Find a new group that is ok with tri bikes or 2.Find a new group, respect their no-tri wishes, and ride with your road bike instead. It's simple, which is why I think that answer was not the purpose of this thread. You guys are just having some drama fun. Reconsider chick flicks please. At least your gf will be happy too. Hahahahaha.

that's a given for try-athletes
