Cycling Goals for August

Do you have any cycling goals for August?

Like maybe ... for example ...
-- participating in a race
-- riding your first century
-- doing a cycling tour
-- cycling a certain distance in the month of August
-- cycling a certain number of days, or a certain length of time, in the month of August
-- trying a different type of bicycle
-- riding with family or friends you haven't ridden with in a long time

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We're hoping to ride our August century, to do a short cycling tour, and to cycle in a variety of places and terrains in both Australia and Canada. If possible we'd like to give my father's Cattrike a go ... and I'm still really hoping that we might be able to get in at least one little ride with my father who is recovering from surgery. We'd also like to cycle with several people we either have never met or haven't seen in a long time, in BC.
If all that happens, it will be a very good August! :)
I want a 1200 mile month. The past few months something has always came up that has kept me from reaching it. Just 50 miles a day 6 days a week on average. Simple. Just have to get out of my own way.
Keep hitting a wall at 40 mile marker, but I would like to build more endurance before I attempt a full century (there will be one in NYC first week September).
I would like to break my personal best of 500 miles in one month. I'll set my mileage goal for August of 600 miles.
Tough when you work a 9-5 M-F Shift. Weekend Newbie for life.
I've always wanted to try a TT bike, but I don't want to ride one and be persuaded to buy another bike (bought my current earlier this year).
Have fun and good luck! (Not that you need it, Mrs. Pro-Randonneur)
I'm just happy to be riding again after a severe sprain in May that just won't heal....probably because I keep pushing it / re-injuring it. I know its not much but I'd be happy with a 400-600 mile month since I was not able to ride for much of May and June. I still hope to be able to do the MS 150 in September.
Finish training for the Leadville 100, which is on August 13th.
Ride up & down Mt. Evans after that.
Survive both of those... fingers
Hoping for an 82 miler in August, prepping for my first [miles] century in October. Hoping to log 400 miles, but it will be a challenge with 9 days of business travel in there.
My goal is to survive my vacation in the mtns of North Carolina with my bike. Pretty psyched to be able to bring it and have planned some pretty punishing rides with more climbing for a week than I usually do in 6 weeks.
Gotta close out road season with a bang... hopefully a top 5 this month before getting into CX mode in september. Which will hopefully entail a new SSCX bike, because I'm a masochist like that.
Metric Century planned and WILL happen. October, full century. A first for both...
I've done 1000+ mile months while working 45-55 hours a week. It is possible to get a lot of cycling in and still lead a full and busy life. One of the things I did back in the days when I was doing 1000+ mile months more regularly was to commute to and from work 5 days a week. (13.4 km * 5)*4 = 268 km of cycling in commuting alone. And then I would swing by home at the end of the day, grab a quick snack, and be out on the bicycle until dark.
These days I walk to work so I'm not getting the commuting distances in.
Duathlon August 15th that's on my mind. I feel confident in the cycling section, and my cardio is there for the running, my running muscles just should be better. Wish I trained earlier for it. Killing myself now, trying to balance the training.
Shooting for an 800-1000 mile month. Did my first century yesterday so i'm proud of myself for that.
travelerman 07-28-11 03:23 AM
Trying to get back into form after 22 years: my goal is to double the 15 mile-per-ride maximum I've gotten back up to for a 30+ mile ride... sounds a little lame compared to the century and 1000-mile per month riders, but that's about where I'm at...
(Oh, and in so doing, convince the Mrs. that the time is right to spring for a new bike ;-)
1. Finish the road season strong,
2. Be prepared for CX season right out of the chute, and
3. Don't die in the heat.
LowCel 07-28-11 05:35 AM
Would like to get at least 900 or so miles in. Plan to have a lot of fun riding the MS150. Other than that just want to have fun riding by myself and with friends. Losing a few pounds would be a nice bonus.
dave1442397 07-28-11 06:41 AM
My main goal is to do all the local rides I can get to. This is my first season on a bike since the 1980s, and I'm up to around 800 miles so far.
My best ride so far was on Tuesday of this week, when I went on a 27-mile paceline training ride with a local group. We averaged 22.4 mph and my top speed on the flats was 34 mph. I was happy with that! The longest ride so far was 58 miles on Fathers Day, and I was tired after that one.
My goal for August is to cycle around Lake Tahoe (approx 74 miles). I'm not going for speed on that ride - I want to take my time and enjoy the scenery. I reserved a Trek Madone rental bike and I'm really looking forward to it.
aham23 07-28-11 06:49 AM
podium.
later.
plantrob 07-28-11 09:28 AM
I'm hoping to complete my first race. It would just be one of the local thursday-night training race series. Looking forward to seeing if I can hang with a Cat-5 field at least for the majority of a race. No hope of getting points, my sprinting still sucks.
marcosbullock 07-28-11 09:33 AM
1) Get down to 155lbs.
2) Retain some shell of my cycleness throughout what's going to be a crazy month as I'm moving across the country.
3) Wisely spend the last cycling related "fun money" that I'll have for a long time. (more emphasis on "spend" than on "wisely")
Phil_gretz 07-28-11 09:45 AM
Start strong in the Vuelta a Espania. Podium finish in September.
- Alberto
Dirk Calloway 07-28-11 09:56 AM
-drop from 170 to 165
-climbing, lots and lots of climbing
Commuting to work is out of question for me. Otherwise, 1k mi months would be achievable. There are days I don't leave work until 8pm.
Velo Vol 07-28-11 10:12 AM
I have no goals, but it's not August yet.
vandalarchitect 07-28-11 10:13 AM
Ride my first century and ride in the Tour de Lentil (metric century)
