which bike for Saturday Century
We have a century this Saturday that is for St jude's cause and it is not a race but I do want to ride as quick as I can. About 200 pre-registered and I normally ride solo so looking to at least have some company. Well it will be hot no matter and the usual chip-seal roads, some fine but others could have been recently chipped. I have a choice between my 2 bikes either one will work but has to do with tires.
My one bike has basically new Vredestein tires and they hold up well and I don't want to change any flats.....hopefully. The other bike has Kenda Kaliante's that have been great but they have 2500 miles on them and otherwise look ok. The rear tire is getting to the end of its life the front is fine. I would actually rather ride this bike but the tires have me a little concerned. No cuts or anything but the rubber has got to be thinner. I have only had 2 flats on the rear tire never on the front. The rear had a flat in the 1st 500 miles due ito when it was wet, and then about 2 months ago but holding fine now.
In the interest of losing time if I have a flat what bike would you ride? Go for what you want to ride, or ride the new tires knowing they are better, but even new tires can flat. These chip seal roads can be an issue in the summer is my guess ,although I have generally been lucky, not many flats.

I'd swap the good tires onto the bike that I'd prefer to ride at the event.
