New light causing interferance to computer

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New light causing interferance to computer

Just got a new headlight and it's causing my speedometer and heart rate monitor to dip towards 0 periodically, confirmed by spinning the wheel in place with the light on and off. I tried wrapping aluminum foil over the light, wire, and battery to no avail and only seems to work if I wrap the speedometer ALL over with 3 in high foil. Both are also located the max distance on my handlebar - I'm not going to mount the light on my helmet.

Now I'm looking at the Garmin Forerunner 305 with both the heart rate and cadence/speed attachments, but will the light still cause interference? Are the heart rate and Cadence/speed wireless attachments transmitted the same way as "regular" wireless computers? If so then I'm thinking it will be affected as well.

If the GPS unit will work but the heart rate/speedometer attachments will still be affected by interference then I will have to switch to a wired speedometer and wear my hr monitor on my wrist which I'm trying to avoid, unless there are alternatives? My computer IS about 5 years old - maybe current models are better protected?

Garmin uses ANT+ so there will be no interference. 99.9% of all wireless computers will have the interference issue with certain lights, and only when the light is set on a mode where it flashes.

I have a light that used to zero out a Cateye Wireless computer. I've since moved on to the Garmin 500 and have no issues with the same light regardless of power setting. I'd assume, as nixternal said, the ANT+ should make it a non issue with the 305 as well.

Hmm then it's safe to assume the heart rate and cadence/speedometer addon transfer via ANT+ as well? That will be swell (besides the addon not being waterproof...). Thanks!

that's why I switched to the Cateye V3. 2.4 Ghz = no interference from anything. I was getting interference w/ my polar watch and my Strata Wireless before.
