Anybody buy jerseys from bike shops when on vacation?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm sure you guys are like me and when you are out traveling and you see a bike shop you of course stop and check in. Im just curious as to when you stop in do you ever buy the local bike shop jersey? I've never done it but it kind of hit me today that its kind of like buying a t shirt when your on vacation.

I still haven't gotten mine from Canary Cycles in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada.... But that's cuz they are race fit, and I'm just barely club fit. Otherwise, I think it's a great idea. Plus it's something nobody at home will have.

I started doing this last vacation actually. Picked up a capo custom from Johnny sprockets in Chicago. Now it's my favorite jersey and I plan to start picking whenever I'm somewhere new.

Funny that this thread came up today. I'm vacationing in Sunny Isles, Florida and took a drive out to Mack Cycle & Fitness in Miami. Bought a pair of Bontrager bibs, a Primal Wear jersey and Tifosi glasses.

I thought about it the last time I was traveling, but I'm too cheap to drop $100 on a jersey. I did check their sale rack though.

I buy jerseys and other stuff from bicycles shops I encounter when I'm on holiday ... if there's something nice under $20 ... but not The Bicycle Shop's jersey.

Going to London on Friday. I intend to visit Condor Cycles and pick up one of these. Classy, retro look. Not the tacky, obnoxious LBS shirt typical in the states.

I used to, until I started racing and now I have a ton of team jerseys, but I do like to pick up something, usually a bottle at least.

I bought NASA socks at Cape Canaveral late last year. I wouldn't mind jerseys as long as they remind me of my trip otherwise I can buy any brand from home.

Just back from Denmark. I got bottle cages (BBB) and socks (Diadora). I´m always looking for deals on trips/vacation. Last summer in Denmark I picked up a Selle Italia Octavia NOS c:a 2004/05 for almost nothing. Best saddle I ever had!

As for me, I rarely go to bike shops when on vacation. Once tried to swap club jerseys with an italian, but he wasn't really interested.

I once inquired about a purple Suwannee jersey but they had none for sale.

Never really thought about it, then again, the three closest LBS to here don't sell jerseys.

Not from a bike shop, but when I was touring in the Netherlands I bought an "Amstel Bier" jersey at the Amstel brewery. Later in the tour, wearing the jersey in Germany, some kids shouted "Tour de France mit Amstel Bier" as we rode by. Too bad it doesn't fit me 30 years later or I would still be wearing it.

I did break my rule when we were in Italy last summer. The little shop in the little town we were visiting rented me a bike for next to nothing so I wanted to make up for it and bought a jersey and bibs. It's pretty cool having a jersey advertising the local plumber in a Tuscan town.

I have always looked at the "local" jerseys but never purchased them because they are mostly used by the locally support race teams and I don't want to portray myself as being aligned with them out of respect, although I know they wouldn't sell them if they only wanted the race team to have them. Since I can resolve that in my mind, I save money.
